[Raine's all business today; if there's any larger emotion, it's hidden behind brisk matter-of-factness.]

As a general reminder, if you know healing techniques that can be passed down to others, whether magical or mundane, it would be appreciated if you could spare some time at the Healers' Guild in order to do so, especially with the Grand Justicar's specified arrival date rapidly approaching.

And, of course, if anyone wants to learn, they're more than welcome. Maintaining the safety of the city and its people is the most important thing right now.

[There's a pause. Raine considers visibly, finally adds,]

As well, specifically addressed to Foreigners, I believe Milyn has still been working on a vaccine for zhyris; if you are capable and willing to assist her in any capacity, I'm sure it would be appreciated.

[ooc; well, I meant to do this about a week ago and apparently life happened, but please consider this Raine's preliminary request to start consolidating healing-type knowledge. Do you know what sort of assistance Milyn needs?

[With the events of the last few weeks involving Ven and Xion, Aqua's been less attentive than she'd like to other matters.]

And if there's anything additional I can do, please let me know.

I know she needed blood samples earlier, but she may have made more progress since then.

[Raine smiles, though just a little bit.]

Of course. I know where to find you.

[A pause. Something occurs to her.]

Aqua... has everything been all right?

I'll have to visit her soon.

[She smiles back.

Raine's question catches her off-guard though, and she hesitates a moment.]

Hm? Oh... [It's not surprising Raine has noticed something is off. Aqua sighs.]

That Foreigner who was attacking others this month… he went after both Xion and Ven. [She knows the situation was worked out, that there had been no ill intent towards anyone beyond the confusion of arriving so suddenly, but there’s still a hard edge to her voice.]

They're both fine [she adds quickly, to preclude any concern on Raine's part,] but it was... upsetting.

[Yes, Raine thought something might be off. Her expression dims a little nearly in synch-- she can't help but think of what one of those attacks led to, and it's not something she wants to dwell on right now.]

Understandably so. I'm relieved they're all right.

[Though she presumes she would have heard much previously if they were not.]

But everything's been resolved? I'm always happy to help if necessary.

Me too. [She sighs.] I'm glad a stop has been put to it.

[The events had reminded her somewhat of Vanitas, truthfully. The sudden and unprovoked attacks for no clear purpose, especially with Ven being a target, brought the masked boy unbidden to mind. The motives were different, of course, and Irvine was a victim in his own way, but it's still a sour taste in her mouth.

And then there's a notable pause before Aqua speaks again.]

I... I actually haven't spoken to him since he was calmed down. [So not exactly resolved in that sense.] I haven't given much thought to the idea.

[They're both glad, it seems.]

[Raine waits patiently for Aqua's words -- it seemed a thinking pause, not a stop -- and hums thoughtfully when she's done.]

Do you want to?

I... I don't know.

[She swallows.]

It's the right thing to do. I just - I'm not entirely sure how I'd even start.

[A small, rueful smile, barely there.]

I really didn't help much at the time.

[Raine's answering smile, small as it is, is decidedly sympathetic.]

It may help you to organize what you need to say beforehand, especially any questions you might have.

If it would help you to have someone else there, as well...?

[An offer, if a slightly oblique one.]

If you're still looking for volunteers, my offer from before stands.

[ There is a pause, where he doesn't present bravado or too much confidence. That does change things. ]

You'd still be there?

[Yes, Raine didn't think he was that comfortable with the idea.]

[ He isn't, but he does want to help. Not necessarily for the kedan, but any foreigners who might end up affected. ]

Whenever is good for you. My schedule isn't particularly complicated.

[Raine considers the offer a moment longer, finally nods.]

All that aside, how's work at the Guild going?

Well enough.

[Read: no one has died on her watch and they have, for the moment, sufficient funding.]

There's nothing to complain of at the moment, at any rate. What have you been pursuing recently?

Memorizing the city, more or less. Maybe not by heart, but if we're going to be here and fighting for it, why not make it something like home would be?

[ Familiar. The word he's working around is familiar. ]

When I'm not actually doing my jobs and all, anyway.

To a certain extent, it is home.

[Home is people, before it's a place.]

It sounds like you're keeping busy.

[ For Cain, it's comfort. That usually does mean people, but sometimes it's peace, no matter how temporary. ]

Stagnation isn't my style. Relaxation, maybe, but that isn't so much of an option here.

[Raine laughs.]

No, not really. Here and there, perhaps, but not as a way of life.

If you get the chance, you should try it sometime. Not here, somewhere that's less... turtle-y.

[ He grins. ]

Not forever, either, but it comes highly recommended.

I am familiar with the concept of relaxation, thank you.

[And her expression dims faintly, just for a moment, because anywhere less turtle-y she won't remember his advice-- but that's a different problem.]

We'll see. Perhaps after the mess with the Chihuleans is settled.

[ For the reply, he merely gives an amused look. He knows, but living it is different than just doing it every now and then. ]

And what a fine mess it is. What are the chances of that wrapping up peacefully, without incident, do you think?

[Raine sighs, which is equal measures resigned and amused. With this group...?]

I believe we will find a way to resolve it, but I doubt it will be entirely peaceful.

With how tightly everyone is so wound up... you're probably right. Wonder if it'll be us or them who makes the first move?

I hope it will be one of them, so that they have no justifiable reason to extend their stay or any conflict, but... there are some Foreigners with rash tendencies.

I suppose if they do mean to stay they will find an excuse in any case.

[She's not particularly hopeful.]

Not to mention the kedan who have every right to feel frustrated at the turn of events.

[ He tilts his head, bit of a shrug of understanding. ]

It won't be that easy, no, but once the fire starts we'll be hard-pressed to put it out.

Yes. That's what I'm most worried about.

[This entire mess could easily, easily snowball. If they can scrape by with an uneasy peace and no more than two (hopefully minor) diplomatic incidents, Raine will be, if not happy, at least content.]

Everyone is worried about it. So far, no one seems to have put any measures in place for dealing with it.

[ He shakes his head. ]

Thinking about how unprepared we are isn't going to help anything, though.

[A wry smile.]

That's true. We'd be better served preparing.

I'm still giving thought to the transcription project I mentioned, as well, but that should likely wait until the current situation is certain not to be a crisis.

Have you considered dictation rather than transcription? If we all understand each other verbally, then books on tape might be the quick and easy solution to let everyone else chip in on rewriting it in their own language.

I have, yes. The hardware would be the sticking point, but there are enough scientists among us that it should be possible.

[Not a perfect solution, but a start.]

There's still the trouble of ensuring access and reproduction, and... I have to wonder if the spell will lapse, someday.

[She's borrowing trouble, though, and she knows it, and in a moment shakes her head.]

Never mind.

Uploading them to the console network would probably be the best place to start. Whatever their servers are hosted on, they seem rather sturdy and it would be a matter of public access, anyway.

[ He gives her a light smile. ]

It's good to be aware, and you have a point, but even if it only lasted a year or a month or a week, it would still be helpful in the meantime.

That's a thought.

[Raine trails off, looking pensive. That'll bear further investigation. It's a few moments before she looks up again, focusing on the camera and Cain.]

You're right, of course. The help it provides in the mean time would be invaluable.

Once this current crisis is less pressing, I should begin more concerted efforts.

[ He merely looks encouraging for the renewed interest in the progress. It's good to have a goal, even if it's secondary or something that won't actually happen for a while yet. Focus helps. ]

As if we have much to do in the meantime while waiting for the Justicar to arrive.

[But that has the sound of humor to it, and one corner of Raine's mouth has quirked up.]

Good. I've been picking up what I can of the local language if that would help at all, too.
