[The feed kicks on to an empty chair. The video is streaming, but there's no sign of Makoto anywhere. She may or may not be sitting on the floor, out of view.]

Alright, real talk.

I have something super important to ask you all, so listen up.

[She actually sounds pretty serious here too.]

How uh... How many of you know baseball?

[Home is far away and out of reach, so she's on the hunt for common ground.]

Well...

[She started counting off one by one.]

I was raised by one. Dated another for a couple years. Oh, and it's something of a hobby of mine. Moreso back home than here, but late-night habits are hard to kick.

[JAW. DROP. Makoto stares.]

Wait. What. You-- Really?!

[She pretended to look put out by the reaction, despite the inward preening going on.]

Is it really that hard to believe?

[Her jaw snaps shut and Makoto holds her hands up.]

No! No way I just... Sorry, I didn't mean that like you personally. I mean.

[She has no idea what she's saying anymore.]

I just wasn't expecting it, y'know? Where I'm from this just doesn't happen.

[She was giggling even before Makoto had a chance to finish her explanation. Taking pity on the poor girl, she too waved a hand in the air, immediately dismissing the whole notion.]

Nah, don't worry about it. I'm just teasing.

It's cool. Most people don't assume anything when they first see me. It actually works to my advantage a lot of the time. They never see it coming.

[Even so, Makoto breathes a sigh of relief. The last thing she wants is to accidentally offend someone, more so when they're a new friend.]

What can you do? Like, what's your superpower?

[The short version?]

Magic.

[...very short, it seemed. But way easier than having to explain just precisely how her abilities worked. That got into certain topics she wasn't quite ready to discuss with a newcomer. Heck, she still had a hard time discussing those certain topics with oldcomers.]

[Not quite what Makoto expected. But still she sits back, impressed.]

Awesome.

[A beat.]

Can I... bug you to show me some time?

[Okay, that was too adorable to even tease.]

Sure.

Just stop by the Welcome Center whenever I'm around, and I'll be happy to give you a few demonstrations.

Really?!

[There's no missing her excitement. Makoto had been bracing herself for a polite shut-down. She grins broadly and throws a fist in the air.]

Oh man, this is gonna be so cool! Thank you!

[She was like a human M'gann. Completely with the grin and fistpumping.]
