[CONSOLE] video; BACKDATE to 23 MAY

[After a fight between Rey and Kylo Ren at the Hotel, and once the combatants have been appropriately ejected (including Hux, thanks to an attempted equally violent intervention), Anton makes a broadcast.

[He's looking only slightly ruffled, but those who know him will see his demeanour is a bit sterner than usual. Behind him, the Hotel's lobby is visible ... more than ruffled. There's a few broken bits.]

Please be aware that Misters Kylo Ren and Hux, and Ms Rey, are banned from the Midnight Hotel for the foreseeable future. Anyone attempting to sneak them inside or otherwise grant them access will be considered in violation of the Hotel's rules.

Please. There was ... more damage than I would have expected for a sword-fight, even one with laser swords. There were other powers involved.

That...can happen with that sort of thing. I'll head over.

Thank you. I don't believe there's much damage to the utilities directly, but if there's been a backlash some of the electrical appliances may need maintenance.

They could probably use a look-over, if nothing else.

I'd expect a bar fight but a hotel fight sounds more out of control .

There were only two active combatants--

[Aside from Hux trying to shoot Rey in the back.]

--but both of them have some rather specialised powers. Still, it could have been worse.

[When Anton and Valdis had gone toe-to-toe the whole lobby had been gutted.]

I can't speak for Kylo Ren or his friend, but I wanted to apologize in Rey's regard. She was trying to defend herself.

I know that doesn't excuse their behaviour and I am not trying to do that, I just wanted to thank you for interfering. Force users can be really difficult to handle. I can help with the cleaning and fixing what they broke, if you are okay with that.

[A little more gently than his main post:]

I appreciate that you are defending your friend, Mr Poe, but numerous witnesses say that Ms Rey attacked first. Perhaps not without cause, but nevertheless, there was more than mere self-defence involved.

But I also appreciate your offer, and would be glad of your assistance. Have you any experience with handyman work?

I see. Sorry again then, I'll talk to her about it. They have some unresolved issues from home.

["Issues" being the euphemism of the year.]

I do, quite a lot. My family has a ranch back in Yavin 4 and I've been part of the military for more than a decade. I not afraid of hard work

[At that description Anton relaxes a little, even manages to smile.]

[That gets a chuckle out of Poe and then a grimace.] Yes, it's a bit complicated. Back home we are on opposite sides of a war, things get nasty when we mix.

[Poe is glad he accepts because the poor man didn't really deserve to have his property destroyed. He smiles back.]

Then it's set. Working it's good for the spirit, if you ask me. And your Hotel...it's certainly something special. I didn't had time to see much of it but it looked impressive.

He still suspects that Skulduggery pushed or otherwise laid hands on Sanguine that time, but without having seen it himself and with Sanguine upholding Skulduggery's claim, there wasn't much he could do. Besides, he got to punch Sanguine soon after, even if the man deserved worse.]

Thank you. I would like to specify that you yourself did not break the Hotel's rules, and therefore aren't under the same restraints as Ms Rey--though if you would prefer not to stay here in light of that, I understand.

[Especially if Rey needs some watching, given her abilities.]

Then I'm sorry to hear that. It's hard to forget past offences, specially when some wounds are still fresh.

I appreciate your generosity and I'll keep it in mind. I want to visit your restaurant for sure in the future. For now I'd like to spend some time with Rey, we both need the company.

[That too. But Poe gets himself in trouble 80% of the time so he's not exactly the bes role model either.]

It's a work in progress. Hopefully, with time, we will get better at this but humans are flawed creatures.

[Poe rubs the healing scar in his cheekbone absently. He knows far too well how much trouble resentment can bring but it's not an easy thing to deal with. Still, he gives Anton a smile a second later.]

Will do, thank you. I must admit, I was quite impressed by your weapon of choice during the confrontation.

I tend to find it unhelpful to judge that on a species' long-term scale. Individuals may get better--species will, on average, remain as they always have.

[Five hundred plus years may not be long compared to some others here, but it's long enough that Anton doesn't entirely believe in societal moral progression.]

Not a weapon I have wielded in quite a while, I admit, but Cleaver's scythes are enchanted against damage. It seemed the most likely to be useful in this situation, of the weapons I have.

[Mostly it's enchanted against magical damage. Using it had been a bit of a gamble, and the steel had warped a bit, but all in all it had borne up well enough against a laser sword.]

Jess always said that I was a terrible optimist, so I guest this is one of my particular flaws. I do think we all can get better with time but as you said, when it comes to long-term scale it's very tricky.

[Yup, living that long sure give you insight. Poe's wouldn't question it if he knew.]

Not many weapons in my world can stop a lightsaber, it was a really good choice. Cleaver is a friend of yours?

[The last time Poe saw someone face a lightsaber it ended in murder, he's very happy not to see that happening again.]

I'd be happy to. I hate to say it but I've become fairly good at damage assessment during my time in Jerusalem's Lot. [Mostly because of Zapp]

It's been some time since I've found it necessary, I admit.

The stairs, at the very least, will require some repairs.

They attacked one another. Violence is forbidden in the Midnight Hotel.

Who started it?

It was mutual, as near as I have been able to determine. One drew his weapon first, but the other moved to attack before he did.

So she defended herself?

Duly noted. While I do not know how effective I would be in the cleanup effort, I will nevertheless keep watch for all of the involved parties, and bar their entrance to the hotel.

I appreciate your willingness. Please bear in mind, however, that interfering with them inside the Hotel may constitute a breach on your part, regardless of their being in breach themselves. I've no say how you choose to help outside the Hotel, of course.

I will take that under consideration. While I am unsure as to the effect their "powers" would have on my exoskeleton, I am nevertheless confident that I possess the necessary restraint to subdue them non-lethally.

[A bit more firmly:]

Allow me to reiterate: All violence is not permitted within the Hotel, non-lethally or no. An act of someone else breaching is not dispensation for others to do the same. That is the purpose of my security teams, and only at great need.

As I said, I appreciate your willingness, but any circumstance in which you use force against another inside the Hotel will bring about the same punishment for yourself. If you feel the need to intervene, do so outside the Hotel.

[Even if it's to help. The Hotel's credibility lowers if people start to think anyone can vigilante nuisances at the drop of a hat, and Anton has heard the phrase 'take that under consideration' used to mean 'I'll completely ignore you' too often not to follow up.]

Affirmative. I will not engage in violence of any kind within the Hotel. I do not wish to risk the reputation of your establishment, nor my own place within it.
