[Costigan is looking about as chipper as ever. Which is to say not at all.]

I was here before. I don't remember, but I know I was.

[There's a short pause before he continues.]

I have a list of names. If anyone knows them, or if you are them, contact me. I'll, uh- I'll write them in below.

Also if anyone has information on Eshai or Evandau. I think they were important.

[Another pause, then he reaches forward to click off the video and the list follows.]

[That list of names.]

[Hearing a voice she'd heard before wasn't so surprising. Not anymore. Not even the fact that he seemed to know he'd been here before, but couldn't remember. All that would have warranted some interest--maybe even enough to respond--but not quite the reaction that seeing those names on the list brought about. And the memories that went along with them.]

...what do you want to know?

[About any of them. All of them. Give or take. Coming from a voice over the speakers because she couldn't bring herself to show her face just then. Not until the tears stopped.]

[The list of names has little meaning. Some are familiar, but most aren't. But one name in particular brings a sense of dread as Valdis still has questions concerning him.]

Evandau is dead.

I knew Annabeth, Jack, and Percy.

...Sabriel sounds familiar, but if they -- she? -- was here while I was, we never met.

[Raine remembers this man, she thinks, if only peripherally.]

I only arrived here after Eshai had died, but I may be able to fill in some things. Are you... trying to remember?

[Costigan matches her audio, not too keen on being seen any more than necessary himself.]

I found some.. notes, about them. Notes I think that I made. I want to know who they are.

[Costigan clicks over to audio as well, finding it more comfortable. He has almost no memory of Evandau beyond what's contained in his notes and yet somehow the news of Evandau's death hits him with a grief he can't begin to justify.]

Who was he? What happened?

[lostundercover]

[He hesitates before shrugging.]

I guess, yeah. If I can. If it is me.

[He sits abnormally still, his way of coping with his stress in unknown areas.]

What can you tell me about Jack and Percy?

He was the Chief of the old police force...and Emperor after Eshai. For a short time anyway. He was...murdered.

By who?

Who ran the police force after he was killed? I heard it's someone else now.

[redlightgreenlight]

A creature named Malicant killed him. Him and many others.

[She sighed softly]

For awhile there wasn't a police force. There was a mafia-like force that called themselves the Snakes that ran things for awhile, but they...[How to put this?] were disbanded when the KPD was formed.

[A pause]

And yes, someone else runs the KPD.

[lostundercover]

Malicant. [Costigan echoes. He remembers the name, remembers it's not supposed to be said aloud. Remembers the anxiety and feeling of war not unlike the situation in Boston he believes he just escaped from.]

You ever heard of someone called Costigan?

[redlightgreenlight]

Yes...Malicant is dead now too.

[A slight pause.]

I believe we spoke once. He said I was too pretty to be able to fight.

[Her reservations were fading somewhat now that the topic had changed.]

Joke's on him.

[As soon as she says it, he knows it's true. It sounds like him. Even if he can't remember the context.]

Did you know Evandau? Besides his position. Had you ever met him?

[redlightgreenlight]

[And there he went again, dragging the conversation back to Evandau...]

I've met him...twice. We didn't exactly get along.

[She blamed him for that. Too many secrets and an unwillingness to let anyone help.]

His fault or yours?

[Costigan ignores the fact that he feels defensive about her insulting someone he can't even remember.]

He did what he thought was best, I can't fault him for that. I can fault him for stealing me from my home to fight a battle that he refused to help us fight.

[Another pause}

But that aside, his death came as a massive shock, we weren't prepared for it...any of it.

[lostundercover]

So what'd you do?

[He leans forward, genuinely curious, though then he pauses.]

Evandau wasn't responsible for bringing the souls here.

[redlightgreenlight]

The only thing we could do. Fight.

[Oh, so he did remember certain things.]

Refresh my memory, Costigan. Who brought the souls here?

[lostundercover]

[So she knows him.]

Eshai. Then I don't know. But it wasn't him, alright?

[He presses his fists into the sockets of his closed eyes, confused and angry and feeling a lot of other emotions that don't quite make sense. He can almost see his old mentor in his mind.]

Who are you?

[redlightgreenlight]

I believe you.

[Ah, there was the question...]

My name is Valdis.

[lostundercover]

[A few things click and he gives a small nod before straightening slightly in his chair.]

Pepper told me I should talk to you. She said something about Costigan starting an old police force and you being in charge of it now. You know anything about that?

[redlightgreenlight]

I'm afraid that the police force you used to run is gone. The Snakes even demolished the old Police Headquarters.

[Despite her plans to overthrow him, part of her missed her conversations with the Snake leader.]

I started from scratch. New people, new headquarters, new training. It hasn't been easy trying to get off the ground though.

Why would I run a police force?

I'm afraid I didn't know you very well, so I'm not sure.

[Of course, why the hell she, a creature of chaos, was running a Police force and trying to follow law, might be a better question. But he didn't know that.]

Loyalty to Evandau?

[Another small nod to acknowledge the idea.]

Pepper wanted me to talk to you about joining the force.
