[Well, this sure had been an interesting few months. Four people knew his secret here at last count, and not a single one of them had freaked out.

Badly.

Okay, so there had been a few double takes at the ghost part, but no calls yet to bring in the ghost hunters. All in all, Danny was counting it as a win.

Even if it was taking him a while to get used to the idea that people knew and the world hadn't ended. The recent changes around here gave him just the distraction he needed. Danny waves into the video feed.]

So I hear there's a bunch of new people here. Weird. Everyone get through the "you're stuck here and can't leave" lecture already?

Sort of - I don't have a soul gem, so I'm not sure the 'can't leave' part applies, but I think I've heard the rest of it.

Speaking of help: how long have you been in the city? Zatanna said she's been here five years, but I wonder what the range is.

Huh, maybe you'll luck out this time then.

[He shrugs.]

Not sure really. Maybe nine, ten months?

[Not someone enjoying his stay here, by the sound of it. Or maybe he just had nothing to really look forward to in whatever world he was from.]

That's pretty impressive, actually. Does that mean whatever calendar's used here works similar to those on the average Earth, or d'you just keep track on your own?

[Considering the maximum time Nita's spent away from home, meaning family and not just the place, was about two weeks, even three-quarters of a year is impressive.]

A little of both, I guess. [He shrugs.] I'm living in a city on top of a giant turtle. I figure I'm lucky the calendar is anything like home at all.

... There aren't any giant elephants here, are there?

[It's a literary reference, Danny: have you heard of Pratchett?]

But that is a good coincidence either way.

I haven't seen any? Why?

[Danny was mostly horrified by the idea of reading outside of school. For fun. That was like something his sister did. ]

Just a thought, nothing major.

[She's not sure yet if the kedan know what elephants are.]

What is the range of wildlife here, though?

[She hasn't seen any of the normal 'pet' animals from home - though she has seen what were probably radically different species. And lots of birds.]

I'm going to go with weird on that one. There are animals here, but none of them look like anything I knew at home. Or they look like weird mutations of the animals I know.

[That lines up with what Nita's gathered so far, at least.]

Any names? Like, species names, not individual ones.

[She's assuming they have both.]

[Danny thinks for a moment.]

Well, we ran into a few local animals the last time we made landfall. I think they were called bibiru, munga and aphaufa.

Huh.

[And yes, Nita is nerd enough to go and write those names down!]

I'll have to look them up sometime, find out how regional they are.

[Because for all she knows, this is another part of her reality... or at least, she's clinging to that thought.]

When's the next scheduled landfall, anyway? Or have they announced one yet?
