[Aly looks a little chagrinned, and blows out her breath with a "whuff" sound.]

Okay, I have a confession to make. The name I've given out isn't the one I usually go by. It's Aly. But you can still call me Keahi. I don't really care.

[She shrugs.]

[Devin laughs quietly, coldly.]

Are you really so desperate for attention that you come to me? This entire announcement was just to annoy me? My word, you are a damaged creature, aren't you.

[She's better off not clinging to him. He's not a good influence, and he doesn't deserve her attempts at friendship.]

"Damaged"?

[She laughs a little, smiling just as coldly.]

Devin, I've been poisoned, bitten, shot, stabbed, and killed. I've watched friends die in front of me when I couldn't do a damn thing to save them. I've changed my entire being, everything that I am. Do you know how much that hurts, Devin? To unmake and remake your entire body, when there are enemies breaking down the door, ready to kill you at your most vulnerable?

Do you know what it is to get your fucking head chopped off and live to tell about it, Devin? Do you see where that might make me a little...damaged?

[He looks bored as she lists all of that off. With the exception of getting his head lopped off and actually killed, Devin's lived through much of the same, though with different context.

The vampire would much prefer to offer comfort or commiseration, but he must not. She needs someone who isn't like her, who isn't as damaged. She's young; she has time to heal.]

Let's see... yes, yes, yes, yes, already dead, yes, yes, and no, [Devin counts off coolly.] And then some.

Do you expect me to care? Because I don't.

[She stares at him for a moment, and then, somewhat incongruously, begins to laugh a little to herself.]

[She's like a damn barnacle.]

I didn't need to know your history of wounds to see that.

But do yourself a favor and stop inviting more.

Anyway, there's this scene where Quint and co. are drinking and comparing their scars to show their manly swagger.

That was a game of one-upmanship. This was a demonstration of indifference. [On his part, anyway.]
