[Console; Video] Fresh Meat
[The video opens on a somewhat charming smile. The man in it seems very sure of himself, and utterly unrattled by his new situation.]
Hey. Captain Jack Harkness here, and I've got to say it's a pretty nice turtle you've got. She's not exactly where I was trying to get, but seeing as this place seems short on the killer reality tv shows...pretty minor quibble.
I've already met a few of the locals - thanks again guys, and sorry about those vegetables - but I'm always open to meet more people. Local, not-so-local, I don't really mind either way since it looks like I'll have some free time.
Other than company, all I'm in the market for right now's a job and maybe some tools, if someone's willing to lend them - I have a piece of tech that got broken in transit somehow, and I'd really rather get it back in one piece.
[He raises his left arm to show off a leather cuff with what appears to be a communicator inside. It's been fried.]
I'm sure we can work something out in exchange, I've been told I'm pretty good with my hands.
[He laughs a little, at his joke, and there's a moment of dead air after it. Just when the pause starts to get uncomfortably long he makes a show of clearing his throat.]
And oh, Doctor, Rose? [His smile tightens, just barely. Appears just a bit forced.] If you're out there, looks like I'm alive after all. Which I'm kind of hoping you two didn't know, because seriously? There are much nicer ways to let a guy down.

[Her tone goes dry. See, she's trying to joke! Sometimes she remembers how it works.]
Let me know before you head over. If you ask at the front desk, someone will direct you to me. Do you need directions to the Guild building?
no subject
Don't worry I can give a heads up. I'll take them, if you don't mind. If not I'm sure I can get some somewhere.
no subject
It's in Water sector. If you're coming from the Welcome Center...
[She goes on to direct him, brisk and practiced like she's directed hundreds of people.]
no subject
Got it. I'll look forward to seeing you there.
[And hopefully finding out what actually happened back on the Gamestation.]
skip to action, or new thread later, or? however suits.
Until then.
[Action - since why not?
But he wasn't thinking of any of that now. Now? He was going to ask for Raine now that he'd made it, walk back the way he was gestured like he belonged. A little nervous? If so, it wasn't like anyone would be able to tell. Since he had decided not to startle her, he made his presence known from a few feet off.]
Well, I'm here for my check-up.
no subject
[She looks up from the conversation to greet Jack with a short nod, and finishes what she was saying about scheduling before transferring all her attention to him.]
I take it you had little trouble getting here. Follow me.
[And she straightens to lead him back into the building, heading for one of the exam rooms. Not strictly necessary for her, but a formality she likes to observe.]
no subject
Not sure where this place is with medicine, just let me know if you need me to take anything off for a closer look.
[He was maybe just a little tense, and even went so far as to sigh, amending himself.]
All joking aside, just let me know what you need.
no subject
[The room is sparse, but has a high ceiling with engravings on it; it looks like it may have been converted from something else. Raine surveys him.]
I shouldn't need you to take anything off; I trust you would inform me if you had a visible wound?
[She hopes. Goodness, does she hope.]
Other than that, my scan is non-invasive.
no subject
Well, work your magic I guess.
[Pun intended? We'll never know.]
no subject
[Dryly. She looks him over, nods slightly, as much to herself as to him. Yes, he does have some aesthetic appeal, doesn't he?]
[She concentrates for a moment -- there is, briefly, a circle of white light composed of angular shapes that spins beneath her. This vanishes when she murmurs Inspect.]
[It isn't much; a short fall of light over Jack, there and gone in an instant. Raine tilts her head at him and frowns faintly when it clears.]
No external nor internal injuries, no lingering illnesses or afflictions... but there is something odd about you I can't quite place. You're human, correct?
no subject
Oh no, I'm human. You mentioned 21st century Earth. I might be a couple centuries past that, could have something to do with it if most of what you've seen is from that period.
[That was all he could think of, really. Oh. Except for this;]
Also, I've kind of travelled in time. That can leave a residue sometimes, could be what your scan there picked up on.
no subject
My own world's technology is... somewhat eclectic, in some places ahead and some behind. Most of those from an Earth here are from the twentieth or twenty-first centuries, however, so it seems to have good use as a reference point.
[Time travel? ... huh. Interesting. Dryly:]
Only kind of?
no subject
[Jack joked a little, the 'gas' being more of a metaphor.]
Just a smidge.
no subject
Surely it's either one way or the other? Discounting the sort of "travel" in time that we do daily, just by living, I would presume 'time travel' is used to refer to traversing a timeline in a non-traditional order.
no subject
[Jack smirks almost apologetically.]
Yes, I've done a little non-linear time-travel. Shielded and un-shielded. I can't think of anything else you'd be picking up.
no subject
Shielded from what?
[Everything he says is giving her more questions. Come on, throw her a bone.]
Neither can I. But all anomalies have some reason.
no subject
Well, if you've gotta know - the Time Vortex. Typically it's supposed to protect you from that stuff. [Jack sounded as if he was skeptical of some as seen on tv product.] Considering it fizzed out on me somewhere mid-journey, I'd buy it didn't do it's job right.
You said I've got a clean bill of health other than that though?
no subject
[This is like pulling teeth, Jack, come on.]
Some physical manifestation of the stream of time, through which one must travel?
[But he did, after all, only come here for a checkup. No matter how much Raine wants to pin him down for new information.]
...yes. Apart from that, you're fine. And it doesn't seem to be impacting you significantly, it's merely strange.
no subject
It was kind of strange, he guessed. The stuff you just started taking for granted. The people here were voracious when it came to information though. That was fine with him, he didn't mind an audience.
"I'll let you know if I start to feel weird, don't worry."
no subject
She latched on to that last. "I'd appreciate that. Far too many of my patients are of the opinion that if it hasn't immediately killed them, I don't need to be told about it." This was aggrieving on a number of levels.
no subject
"Well, consider it a problem. Anyway, I like to keep in touch. Wouldn't want this to be the first and last time we meet, after all." There was a little flirtation in there, but not really more than his normal levels. "I'm sure you've got more mysteries of the universe you want explained, and I wouldn't mind knowing more about what you do, either."
no subject
And then a nod, for his last. "I'm happy to explain some of what I do, when you aren't rushing to another appointment."
