[The video opens on a somewhat charming smile. The man in it seems very sure of himself, and utterly unrattled by his new situation.]

Hey. Captain Jack Harkness here, and I've got to say it's a pretty nice turtle you've got. She's not exactly where I was trying to get, but seeing as this place seems short on the killer reality tv shows...pretty minor quibble.

I've already met a few of the locals - thanks again guys, and sorry about those vegetables - but I'm always open to meet more people. Local, not-so-local, I don't really mind either way since it looks like I'll have some free time.

Other than company, all I'm in the market for right now's a job and maybe some tools, if someone's willing to lend them - I have a piece of tech that got broken in transit somehow, and I'd really rather get it back in one piece.

[He raises his left arm to show off a leather cuff with what appears to be a communicator inside. It's been fried.]

I'm sure we can work something out in exchange, I've been told I'm pretty good with my hands.

[He laughs a little, at his joke, and there's a moment of dead air after it. Just when the pause starts to get uncomfortably long he makes a show of clearing his throat.]

And oh, Doctor, Rose? [His smile tightens, just barely. Appears just a bit forced.] If you're out there, looks like I'm alive after all. Which I'm kind of hoping you two didn't know, because seriously? There are much nicer ways to let a guy down.

[Pepper gives a slightly startled laugh.]

Probably nothing too, uh, vulgar.

[The potential for embarrassment is high here, but she beams at him for the remark about New York.]

It's an awesome place, isn't it? I've never lived anywhere else. What was your favorite part about it?

[Jack seems very pleased at that effect. Mostly because he is.]

I never stayed long, but I've got to say the people. Just the fact that they're everywhere, and there's always something going on. Of course, I was there for business mostly - and just a night or two at that. Technically.

[There was a tease of information there, whether or not it was one that he'd go into more just then.]

So where's your recommendation for a taste of the Big Apple here?

...'Technically', huh. What's that supposed to mean?

[She does generally approve of his assessment of the people. New Yorkers were a special bunch.]

Oh, man. Well, if you like proper pizza, there's a place that does a pretty good impression. And the street markets in Central are a lot like the street fairs. I've got a new friend who's working on making actual bagels. Ooh, and there's buskers sometimes, they're usually pretty good.

[By the way she's talking, she could list more.]

It means 'technically'. You really trying to get me to give all my good stories right now? Anyway - most of the fun parts of that one aren't suitable for the current audience.

[That was sounding like a pretty good assortment.]

Think you can mark some of that off on a map, or just send me a list?

Okay, good point, [Pepper says with a laugh.] But you'd better tell me eventually because now I'm curious.

[And that means questions. Lots of questions.]

I can do both, if you'd like. If you want company chasing everything down, I'm always up for city tours.

I wouldn't worry about it. I'm pretty bad at keeping my mouth closed for prolonged periods of time.

[That wasn't technically true, but he did like a story.]

Might want to explore on my own for now, but tell you what - I decide I do need some company I'll look you up. Or we can save your favorite section of the city for a walk-and-talk, kill two birds with one stone and save you a little leg-work. What do you say?

Sure, that sounds good, [Pepper agrees.] I'm not exactly hard to find - if I'm not home in Sky Sector, at the KPD or at the Jade Dojo, just wait around a little and I'll probably show up.

[Jack offers a quick grin at the list of locales she could be found, and offers another option.]

Or I can presumably get you a message somehow, yeah?

[She sends him her handset code.]

[The flash of a grin makes it clear he's teasing. He raises a hand in a silhouette that's more mock than serious.]
