Good evening, everyone. My name is Inara Serra, and I have recently found myself a bit out of sorts with my arrival in this strange place. I would cry kidnapping, but I hardly think that is the case.

I was wondering - and hoping - that there might just be someone I know here. Please, if you recognize me, I would greatly appreciate if it you could respond.

Also, if anyone could perhaps explain a bit more about what this place is and how I might have come to be here - and why - I would also be greatly indebted to you.

It's been a very long time, I suppose. Earth That Was is ancient history - surviving is what most concentrate on.

You mean, Earth is gone too?

[suoxi]

I'm not entirely sure. It's possible it still exists, but it's resources were so depleted it would be uninhabitable. That's why we moved to this system, and terraformed the planets.

[notdreaming]

You talk about it as though it happened a long time ago, but I didn't realized Terrans had the technology to terraform planets.

[suoxi]

It did, for me. I admit I don't exactly know what a Terran is, though.

[ or at least, what this girl might mean by that. ]

[notdreaming]

People who come from Earth. [ Since they may not all be humans. 'Earthlings' isn't really the same translation. ]

[suoxi]

Hm.

I believe we are from two very different places.

[notdreaming]

That seems to be the case. I don't come from Earth at all, so it's a bit of a mystery to me.

[suoxi]

I don't technically, either. I was born on Sihnon; it's a lovely place...I miss it.

[notdreaming]

I'm from Krypton. We've had some trouble with space travel, but have you heard of it?

[suoxi]

I haven't, no. I'm familiar with most of the core planets, but...I suppose it's possibly we aren't from the same 'Verse at all.

[notdreaming]

I suppose not. [ And even if they were, she had to remind herself that Krypton is gone. If Inara is from the future it's been gone for a long time. ]

[suoxi]

[ ....gently; ]

When are you from?

[notdreaming]

I think the Earth year is 2012.

[suoxi]

[ pardon her while she shakes her head. ]

So...long ago.

How long ago?

[suoxi]

A little more than five hundred years ago.

[notdreaming]

[ Five hundred years isn't really that long if you're thinking about written histories, especially considering where Earth was technologically while Kara was there. So it's worth asking... ]

What happened?

[suoxi]

Resources were depleted, it was overcrowded - it wasn't good. So humans left. It was...generations ago, and it took several generations to become settled in the star system we now reside in.

[notdreaming]

I see. It's a good thing you developed space travel before it became a problem.

[suoxi]

I suppose it is, yes. Quite a lot of the...logistics are lost to the sands of ime, but some stories remain. An entire generation lived on the space ships that were shutting them to their new home. There were people, I hear, that never saw the light of day or set foot planetside.

[notdreaming]

Perhaps they could have used a bit of practice beforehand. It seems unlikely they managed to get so far in such a long time without picking up more supplies along the way.

[suoxi]

Truth be told, I just don't know. Most people these days don't pay much attention to history books, or the lessons they taught.

[ there's a lot of other, pressing concerns. ]

That's too bad. History has a lot of value.
