[ the feed cuts on and Inara is positioned behind the console, smiling lightly with crimson lips pulled upwards as she regarded the camer thoughtfully. She is cleaned up and prepped for a public chat, hair dried and styled as well as she was able. ]

Good evening, everyone. My name is Inara Serra, and I have recently found myself a bit out of sorts with my arrival in this strange place. I would cry kidnapping, but I hardly think that is the case.

I was wondering - and hoping - that there might just be someone I know here. Please, if you recognize me, I would greatly appreciate if it you could respond.

Also, if anyone could perhaps explain a bit more about what this place is and how I might have come to be here - and why - I would also be greatly indebted to you.

[ she smiles once more as she waits for responses, should they come. ]

I can't imagine, unless it was violence for the sake of violence. What point would that prove...?

[ Inara can't think of anything, except to potentially damn them all. ]

I wish I could say it becomes less so, but that would be a lie I'm not willing to attempt.

[She hums a little, a thinking noise.] That the Emperor did not control them, perhaps? It felt a lot of the gangs wanted different things in the end, but most were highly anti-foreigner. There are limited resources here, and we are using a lot of them to our advantage, by say of the Emperor.

[ Inara wrinkles her nose as she thinks, contemplating. ]

I suppose that entails a bit of bitterness, though sinking us all is hardly the answer. [ she shakes her head. ]

If we could understand entirely what could have pushed them to that decision, it might make more sense, but no, it certainly isn't the answer.

As for why we are here, apparently it's assist the kedan against some kind of threat. That's the word through the grapevine, as it were.

[ she clicks her tongue in thought. ]

Hm. I suppose one reason could be they don’t like the idea of not being able to help themselves. Or, that we are ‘encroaching’ where we are so clearly not wanted.

A definite possibility, both. Not all of them feel that way, as I'm sure you've noticed a warm welcome via some of the kedan. Though I don't think it's fair to disregard the fact that we're hardly here by our own choice either.

The ones that pulled me out of the ocean seemed friendly enough.

[ that has her chuckling juuust a tad. ]

That's precisely what I was just thinking. I didn't exactly jump out of bed this morning and make a beeline to this...city.

And helpful, excepting matters referred to the Emperor. I hope your cart ride wasn't terribly tedious.

In that regard, the Emperor herself is the one who apparently summoned us here.

It could have been a bit more dignified, but it also could have been worse.

[ she makes a thoughtful noise. ]

I've heard her mentioned several times. Have you met her?

I haven't. She holds an open audience once a month, though I've yet to attend myself.

Does she even give straight answers?

[ she has to wonder. ]

According to her own version of straight answer, perhaps, but I do highly doubt it.

[ that makes Inara smile. ]

I can;t fault her. I'm familiar with the concept myself.

You're not the only one. [Because Peggy certainly is, too.] Though it doesn't help with everyone's frustration over information.

Oh, definitely. I'm a bit frustrated myself.

I don't think I caught your name. I'm Inara.

Agent Peggy Carter. It's a pleasure to meet you, Inara. I hope your time here doesn't go too badly.

It's a pleasure to meet you as well. I am hoping that it will prove to be quite the enlightening experience.

Optimism. We could use some of that here.

I do try. It can certainly be a bit taxing sometimes.

[She laughs, softly.] People are often surprised at just how taxing it can be.
