I haven't really done one of these.

Figured it'd be too much like I'd be one bad day away from ending up under a blanket screaming 'leave Britney alone!'.

[A snort of amusement with a bitter edge.]

But that's, I was being stupid. I didn't think a place like this was going to be dangerous,

[A long pause, then he continues in a decidedly fake amused voice.]

You'd think I'd know that already, I've seen The Chronicles of Narnia.

[A laugh that fades into a sigh.]

Anyway, I'm just giving a quick shoutout, Asami, Short-And-Grumpy, Annabeth, Criminally Handsome, Little-Panda-Guy and my fellow rooftop dweller; seriously hoping you guys are okay.

If you - or anyone hearing this - needs anything just say the word.

If you did not expect the place to be dangerous, what were you doing in a costume and mask on the rooftops?

One would be very enthusiastic to trust you with asking for your help, after that admission, don't you think?

[Peter lets the words wash over him. For all the snark and anger, and for all he wishes it wasn't, the kid's right]

Maybe I was just hoping it wouldn't be. New to this, like you said, still a little naive perhaps.

Then stop being naive. Or find somebody to watch your back and train you who isn't. The people we are up against are not novices.

[Peter doesn't do team ups. The idea of someone watching his back is so foreign that the thought of asking for help hasn't even occurred to him.

He lets silence play, feeling a smile - small but definitely there - grow on his face for the first time since blood spattered across the festival]

[Yeah, well, Damian wouldn't be doing team-ups, except that's how Bats work. And... he's learned the benefit of the arrangement. With people he's learned to trust, or those they trust in turn, at least.]

That's not an option.

[And it seems he's actually getting a little angry. Though maybe not at Robin. Well, not completely at Robin]

I do not mean well. This is about being practical, logical, and knowing how this 'gig' goes.

I've heard that there are other ways in which people don't do 'nothing,' too.

[Superior and entitled? Check. But, basically, Damian is a brat, this is a situation where everybody having their heads in the game matters, and he's unlikely to let up. Regrettably.]

Short-and-Grumpy? [ Snort. ] I see you met Robin too.

[A laugh, let's share this moment of amused frustration with that kid.]

And thanks, I guess we just have to wait and see how all this plays out.

I'm pretty sure no one expected it! Especially after they were trying so hard to make everything look nice and peaceful.

That's for damn sure. Maybe the Emperor will send us all home soon.

[A snort of laughter that is full of doubt]

But I think even for people with a bit of guard up, everything that happened was still a little unexpected. The kedan most of us encountered were welcoming. The division among them was the unclear part.

Death of a gang leader? Yeah, it's gonna have some long term affects. Especially given the life of two 'foreigners' was preserved over some kedan. That's likely going to only intensify the feelings.

I don't think even the afterlife can do that. If it even is the afterlife, which I don't believe. I've been there, and this isn't it.

Yeah - I was lucky - were you, were you too close? Actually, you don't have to answer that, if you don't want to. What do you think it was all about?

No, it's all right. I... kind of had a front row seat, but it worked out okay in the end.

[aka: she got Yue away from the danger, and Nita made sure the other woman was safe. Everyone else seemed like they could protect themselves, and she hasn't heard of any other casualties. That's a good day, in her book.]

Then he laughs an awkward laugh; one that halts, starts up again and then stops again. Peter's not sure if he's being serious, or joking, or offended, or a million things.]
