[Combeferre certainly looks better than he did a few days ago. There is some color back in his cheeks, a few books and papers scattered around behind him, if one cares to notice. He gives the feed a little bit of a wave and leans close.]

As I have said to a few I have encountered here, at home I was studying to be a doctor. I would dearly love to find something to do with myself in a clinic, as soon as I am physically able. Is there one in this city, or, perhaps, someone who would be interested in starting one if there is not?

I realize there has undoubtedly been quite a lot of advancement within the field of medicine in the past -- however long it has been, but I would certainly be willing to learn. It should prove to be most enlightening.

So please, if there are doctors present, your advice would be greatly appreciated.

[Jehan barely pauses to knock before entering Combeferre's apartment. He laughs a little when he sees his friend at his Box]

I knew you'd be the one to take to that device the fastest.

[Pfff, none of the amis will ever need to knock, as far as he's concerned.]

It is fascinating. I almost wish I could take it apart to see how it works, but I do not think I could get it back together again.

Are you a doctor, mon frère, or an inventor?

[He laughs and sets the flowerpot he brought down on Ferre's table]

Once the weather allows it, I've found some interesting plants I would like try growing. Would you like to help me?

If I had my way, perhaps a bit of both.

[He grins over at Jehan and gets up to inspect the flowerpot.]

Of course. This is the sector for growing things, is it not?

[It's empty, but there is a package of seeds for lilies. Jehan hasn't seen these lilies before, so he wants to grow them]

According to the kedan, yes. I just wish it were warmer. It was June in Paris--why is it winter here?

I do not know, perhaps the seasons are somewhat different when one rides the back of a turtle.

...do you think perhaps we were afloat for several months before being pulled from the ocean? Or even years?

[This has been bothering him and he's been thinking about it all week]

It is certainly something to consider. But I do not know, have you encountered anyone from earlier points in history than we are?

I have not, but then again it isn't something I think to ask. It seems...rude, almost, and with so many people here from places other than our Earth does history really have the same meaning? There are children saying they've been to Faerie and that the gods are real yet are also from Earth--clearly they come from some other 'Earth', but if something so large is different, what else might differ between their home and ours?

Perhaps it is as Dr. Reid said, that -- ah -- multiple worlds do exist, then, and we are simply living proof of that. It is an interesting conundrum, though, to think what history must exist in what world; whether or not we or our struggle may have even come into being.

This place is certainly quite the puzzle.

Messire Combeferre, you're looking much better. [And he is glad to see it! Even if he is totally useless in regards to the doctor thing. Medicine is even less advanced in his time. :(]

It is fascinating. I have been learning as much about it as I can, under the circumstances. I have much to catch up on, it would seem.

I agree- there is so much that is new to become acquainted with that sometimes I almost grow dizzy. Even confined to the things in our homes!

There are a few kedan-run clinics, but they're aimed at, well, the kedan, and don't really know how to deal with humans. I'm not sure whether it'd work, if you tried to go there.

Setting up your own might be harder, but more beneficial, and I'd be happy to help you get up to date.

[She might not be a real doctor, but she knows a fair bit, and there are certain areas - sexual health comes to mind - where he'll need to be brought up to speed with the 21st century.]

Then certainly we must have one for humans. I do think I could manage to set one up; I worked in one in Paris for some time.

[A grin.] Would you? I would love to see how the field has progressed since my own time. [PROGRESS. One of his favorite things.]

I hope you can, it'd definitely be useful. [They're fine in case of emergencies, there are enough vigilantes with first aid training to take care of that, but doctors aren't just for emergencies.]

I'd be happy to teach you what I can. And to help out, if you do get a clinic set up. I probably can't make a full time committment, but I'll do what I can.

[Between three jobs, patrol, and setting up her team, she's not going to have a lot of free time, but she'll dedicate what time she can.]

I'm sure you'll do great, and you can set your friends to work. [There's a whole pack of them, he can make them help (that's what friends are for, right?)]

They might enjoy that. [Of course he will, he will mother-hen them into doing something productive at least.]

Regarding advancements. What do you wish to learn?

[She isn't a medic, per se. But everyone who served in the Soviet-Afghan conflict picked up survival skills, and she's attended a fair few surgeries.

And knowing a doctor is never a bad thing when someone inspires in other people a terrible need to inflict bulletholes as often as she does.]

Anything and everything, madame. I only have expertise up to the year 1832, and I am told there have been quite a lot of things I have missed out on.

Keep to your learnings, then. I may have a need for you in the future.

When I have time, I will teach you what I know. Field medicine primarily. I have done no studying, but have much experience.

Experience is, they say, the best teacher. I have some field experience as well, but nothing terribly in-depth.

War taught me.

My professors taught me, then work in the clinics did. I have seen what war can do to a person, however.

Mankind is not a herd to be culled, in my estimation. Each death is something to be pitied, not simply a practicality.
