audio;

[ An audio post is sent out from the previously thought unoccupied 3B apartment complex Water Sector. The voice of the sender is delivered in a steady cadence. ]

I will never find myself champing at the bit for another opportunity to be choking on sea water then dragged out of the ocean only to be laid out on that cold, black shell like the morning catch. Even though the kedan were kind enough not to leave me to drown I don't find myself beholden to their efforts when I was nowhere near the edge of the shell before I found myself being fished out a second time.

[ The emotion in the account he gave of what he recently experienced was jarringly dispassionate to the point it almost sounded artificial. Despite how unsettling the implications were. ]

And asking if they or anyone under them were responsible for what happened might only invent a repeat performance. So I'll only ask once-- who did this? The emperor had always appeared to find contentment in quiet enmity, not outright maliciousness.

No--Amon?

[Look, she's doing an okay job of keeping his secret identity secret.

Also, there's no evidence of the burns she suffered visible on her arm or shoulder anymore. She was not kidding about how thoroughly she would heal.]

Yeah, I'm doing fine.

Are you okay? You...sound okay.

[Since she can't actually see anything but his eyes.

Good job with the Doctor Doom vibe, there, bro.]

You just up and disappeared. You were gone for ages. I was worried.

[Nita does emotions, dwi.]
littlecousin: (this is stupid)

At least a couple months.

[Don't rain on her hyperbole parade, gosh.]

Tarrlok's gone, too. I don't know when he vanished. Didn't talk to him as much as you.
littlecousin: (you're doing something dumb right?)

Sometimes life does that to you.

[She missed some really important stuff back home.]

[Okay, private it is.]

What gave it away? The giant turtle?

[Nita's from comics. There are already an untold number of worlds and galaxies, and death is essentially meaningless.

Regardless, that bit about the turtle is deadpan funny from her point of view, and she laughs.]

I can't claim to have ever given omnipotent turtles any thought one way or another before getting here.

'Respawns' from death itself seem to be almost instantaneous. I can think of no particular reason why you would have simply been absent for 89 days with no particular memory of having been so.

[S'up. He stalks things.]

Oh I wasn't-- keeping track, per se. I just, um.

[... um.]

Read the Network.

[... all of it.]

I'm Doctor Reid. Spencer.

No, I have an eidetic memory. The Network has an audio/visual to text function, it was relatively easy to transfer everything over. From there it was simply a matter of noting your last appearance on the Network. It's possible you've been gone a shorter period of time than what I said, but not a longer one.

You're that guy from the storm.

[Yup. You're 'that guy' Amon, how's it feel?]

You've been gone. Least, I haven't seen you around for a while.

We've got some pretty impressive whales where I'm from, but that's about it.

[She does not realize he's talking about lion turtles because what.]

It's fine. I'm not offended.

[It's pretty hard to do so, actually.]

Honestly, it doesn't seem to fit her overall style. It could be a glitch in whatever system she's using? There are several instances of people being reported gone only to return later. Sometimes with memories, and at least once without.

Nailed it.

[She smiles thinly and gives the console a thumbs up.]

Let me get this straight: You don't remember being gone?

[The way he said it was weird, but that's the feeling she got out of it.]
