More like... we beat the bad guy and her army, but then she escaped through a magic portal, and we chased her, and then we were all stuck somewhere mysterious and creepy.

Actually that sounds like something that would happen to me. And I take it that somewhere mysterious and creepy is far enough away from your home base that who knows what the army is doing without their boss.

[Sure, it could be macrame. Or it could be widespread looting. Or someone worse could come along to fill the power vacuum. You just never know where things were going to fall on the silly versus serious problem scale until you got back.]

How competent are the rank and file? Are the generals the sort who would stab their boss in the back if they got a chance, or idiots who probably hinder her more than she helps?
