This is probably going to be a dumb-arsed question, but... There any way to charge mobile phones in this place? I only got 15% battery left, and it's sorta been what's keepin' me busy when I get bored.

[ So it's finally happening. Kids are forgetting how to entertain themselves outside of technology. Cain is laughing on the inside, although he seems rather understanding of the plight, too. Those things can be pretty addictive. ]

Not that I know of. You could always go read a book. Or write a book if there aren't any in your language. Learn a sport, take up a hobby, volunteer some of your time, memorize a new street, try those rudimentary games on the new communicators...

You've got some other options to keep yourself busy.

This is after I've done stuff in the turtle city. This is to make sure I can keep proving I'm not going insane. [SO SALTY ABOUT THAT.] I could work on stuff on paper, but there's a reason my design schematics are on my phone.

What sort of designs do you work on? Things that need to be in 3D, or ones where shorthand is easier on a keyboard than written?

Engineering schematics. Something I was working on back home. [A pause, he looks away from the camera a bit.] Pretty bloody pointless now.

Converting it to paper before you keep on it might be a way to pass the time.

So working on it is just a way to fill the time, and that's that. I mean... far be it from me to give life advice, but why not start something new?

I don't have the tools and materials I would have back home. Besides, turtle city seems to do fine without anything I can bring.

Yes, which is why we're currently suffering a massive heatwave and drought. Any kind of engineering ability is bound to be useful for helping relieve some of this. You would be surprised how well the kedan react when you express a genuine want to actually help them.

I can't conjour water out of nothing, mate, and any desalination solution'd take years to make.

What about air conditioning or some way to provide easier transportation for goods that would spoil in the heat, meaning people from further out have a better chance of getting what they need? There are other ways to deal with heat than just making water appear.

Air conditioning uses a lot of power, something I'm pretty sure the power grid can't handle yet.
