[Zatanna appears with a smile on her face and a...rabbit on her head. No, not the same one that seems to have been going around from person to person. This one was actually stuffed. Cute in its own right, but very much nonliving. Still, she didn't want to feel left out in the festivities. Plus, she had her own reasons for donning it. One that, believe it or not, involved neither tophats not magic tricks.]

Funny story.

I checked the calendar, and it looks like national all-you-can-eat day is coming up [Translation: Thanksgiving.] It's a great opportunity for me to flex my amazing cooking skills...but I'm almost starting to run out of ideas. Want to keep things fresh each year, you know?

Anybody here got any favorite recipes that might offer a fun challenge? I'm open. I'll even cook meat.

[She won't eat it, of course, but she'll cook it.]

Do people still go there?

If they do, then I don't know about it.

And, honestly, I'm not sure I want to know. [Her body gave an involuntary shudder.] Bad memories.

[ River knows a thing or two about bad memories. ]

Simon says the best way to deal with bad memories is to make more good ones.

Simon sounds like an incredibly smart person.

[She'd been following just fine until that last part.]

Whoever he is, you two sound close, so of course you'd want to sing his praises a little bit. I don't mind. Honest.

He's my brother.

I got scared. I needed help, so he came to save me. Ran away from everything.

I might not be much of an expert on siblings...seeing as how I never had any...but I'm pretty sure that's what they're supposed to do. Help you when you need saving.

[ It's similar to the reassurances that Simon offers her, and River isn't sure whether that makes her feel better or worse. ]

[Zatanna...blinked. Once. Twice. Echoing the phrase in her mind to make sure she definitely didn't understand a word of the first part of her response. Huh. Been a while since that happened.]

...what was that?

[ River is so used to everyone being fluent in both languages. ]

Chinese.

Huh.

[She had about three and a half languages under her belt, but Chinese was not one of them.]

What does it mean?

That Simon is like gravity. He makes...

He makes things stop spinning. Axial rotation, out of control, the angle between its equatorial plane and orbital plane.

[Her eyes widened ever so slightly. Wow...that's...]

[She'd never had a sibling before. She'd had people who were like siblings to her. Kyle's face momentarily flashed in her mind; those days when she'd stayed with him after the incident that destroyed her first Keelai residence apartment. Late nights waking up, finding him painting in the dark. Finding comfort in warm hugs and long conversations. And she thought of Jack...the look on his face in Dreaming as he'd held that little girl he'd called his sister....]

Must be nice.

[ Her observation gets a tiny smile from River. ]
