Video / Console
Haaaas anyone seen Enjolras recently?
[Fletch's concerned face appears on the console. He's frowning down at a file.]
Come to think of it, Dove's MIA, too. [Damn. He scrubs a hand over his face.] If anyone's seen them, can you get them to contact me? This is putting a huge strain on the Guild.
Uh, just a heads-up that we might be a bit overstretched until we get this sorted.
Thanks.

He's gone. Enjorlas.
He...went home.
[voice]
[And you can't really hide loss from someone who's experienced it, Midii. Even in voice. That pause tells him all he needs to know.]
You were close to him?
[voice]
I'd known him since I was a little girl. [Which both did and didn't answer his question.] He was one of the few people from the same country as me, living a similar life...just from a different point in time.
[voice]
[Despite the words being sincere, they do sound practiced. It's something he's had to do on quite a few occasions, especially working in the ED.]
I heard... what... will happen when he goes home. If there's anything I can do...?
[voice]
[Because she remembered as well. A depressingly similar far to that of Gavroche. And Eponine.]
...I'll be alright. It's not the first time I've lost somebody here. It's not even the first time I've lost somebody from that same world.
[That world, though. Not her world.]
[voice]
[voice]
There have been so many. Including people that I never even met. It would be fair to set something up for one and ignore all the others.
[voice]
[Fair enough.]
That makes sense. Uh... We haven't been introduced. I'm Nurse Fletcher. I work at the guild.
[voice]
I remember you. From the Network. You're the one who told us about Milyn.
[Her voice run of familiarity and...little else. No emotions, positive or negative, to give away on that subject.]
I'm Midii.
[voice]
[And there's quite a bit of emotion in Fletch's voice. Sadness? Regret? Maybe. It's a bit mixed.]
Nice to meet ya. I wish it would be under better circumstances.
[voice]
You might be surprised at how often I hear those exact words.
...or maybe not.
[voice]
[voice]
Yeah. Me too.
I wish...I mean, I remember back in the day, there used to be...other things happening where new people could meet. Happier times. Before the whole business with Malicant.
[Of course, she'd been young and pretty antisocial in those days...okay, maybe she was still something of a wall flower even now, but she was far less paranoid and willing to at least talk to other people. Including face to face.]
I remember...a lot of people liked those times. They were nice.
[voice]
[voice]
I know...people wake up in a different place than we used to, but I can't remember a time when we went very long without new faces showing up.
[voice]
[voice]
I thought it was mainly a place to get information.
[She seldom went there herself, since she already knew enough about Keelai on her own.]
[voice]
It'd be nice to have somewhere to go, to meet other people in a bit more of a controlled space. Maybe we can get local businesses interested to see if people can get jobs easier.
[voice]
[There was a small 'hmm' on her end. Contemplative.]
There would be parties sometimes. Mostly for holidays. Those would always have the most non-local people gathered in one place at a time. Otherwise, we've always mostly done our own thing until we had to go fight Malicant once and for all.
[voice]
[voice]
I mean, I've never planned one of them before, but I know it takes a lot of work and coordination. And money for food and to rent a place large enough to hold everybody comfortably.
[voice]
I'll think of something.
