Look what I found.

[Fletch is postiviely glowing, grinning as he hefts a large device with a screen onto the table in front of the console. Fletch wraps an arm around it as if it was a long lost friend.]

This is a LifePak. A LifePak 15, to be precise. It's a medical monitor, and am I bloody glad to see it. Basically, it does everything; blood pressure, heart monitoring, temperature... You name it. It even acts as an automatic and manual defibrilator. I just found them in one of the curio shops. The kedan shopowner was very accomodating when I stopped him from frying himself on the charged Defib parts.

[He's still grinning. It's tech from home. Tech he can use.]

I'm donating these. One to the Healer's Guild, one to the Hotel, with the caveat that both can be used by anyone trained in them if they need to, and they can be moved between the Hotel and the Guild freely. As for training, I'm happy to give courses in how to use 'em, at a very generous rate that will go straight to the Healer's Guild, of course.

[A pause as he looks the device over.]

I need to have a word with someone who can fashion a charger for them, though. They're fully charged at the moment, but, yeah, they're battery operated. So anyone from the Metalworkers or the College fancy a challenge? Let me know. It'd be much appreciated.

So, hey...

[Hey, Keelial. Remember him? He looks a lot more tired than before, his hair is ruffled and his shirt looks partly undone. It looks like he's sat in the College.]

Anyone noticed the pattern on the Turtle's shell? It's... pulsing. It started like... three? Four days ago? The time between the pulses is getting shorter.

I'm not sure what this means, but... hey. It sounds important, right? I've done some math and, well... I think... [Yawn.] ...I think the pulses are gonna stop in a week or so. If the period between them keeps getting shorter.

Assuming that's what this is.

So it looks like I'm going to need to get a job pretty soon. [Danny makes a face at the idea. His only job experience was the time he subbed for Val as the mascot at the local fast food place. It was miserable. ]

Anyone got any ideas? I'm kind of stumped.

[The only job he actually had experience with was ghost-fighting. But he was almost certain that half-ghost part-time ghost-fighting vigilante didn't belong on any resume ever.]

[From the moment the feed began, Zatanna's surroundings were a little more visible than usual.  The Welcome Center, with her leaning slightly back.  Clearly prepared to get comfortable if necessary.  As if she planned on sitting there for a while.]

Hey, everyone.

[And to start, she waved at the camera.  Master of showmanship, this one.]

Okay, so, most of you probably at least recognize my face by now.  Because if not, I'm so not doing my job properly.

I'm Zatanna.  I run the Welcome Center, and...well, let's just say there's a reason for that.  I've kind of been here a while.  Like, a really long while.  Including that year we all spent in the Dreaming Realm...probably more than five years by now.  Man, time sure does fly when you adjust to your kidnapping, huh?

[Jokes aside...]

A lot's happened in that time.  I mean, we're talking everything from zombies to ghost possessions to baby turtles dream-hopping to people's powers getting all messed up.  We used to have Emperors, you know.  Like an actual monarchy.  Oh, and that whole thing with the shell starting to glow?  Yeah, that's definitely not new, though I haven't seen it since Ast--I mean, the Great Turtle was busy not being in a coma.

So, yeah, I guess if anybody has any questions on that sort of thing, I'm here to answer them as best as I can.  I mean, I figured, share the wealth, you know?  Since you all deserve to know what kind of place you were brought to, and how this whole thing all started in the first place.

((ooc: As I mentioned here, I did recently put together a basic list of plot-relevant events of the past for newcomers to check out.  But here's a chance for your characters to get in on the story IC.  Not ALL of it, of course, and these stories will be told from Zatanna's IC perspective, which can sometimes be a bit misleading or even missing information...but fellow Turtle Veterans are also welcome to join in on conversations.  Mix and mingle and possibly threadjack at will!))

This is ridiculous!

[There is a small boy scowling up into the console's video feed with a highly offended expression on his face. Not that it was easy to see that much. Even standing on a stool he is barely tall enough to reach the console.]

There can't be a turtle that big. If it was real it would be completely violating the square-cube law. Even presuming that it was possible for a turtle to grow this big, a biological creature cannot scale up like this. The larger an animal grows, the less its proportional muscle strength. According to that law, this turtle shouldn't even be able to move and there should be severe problems with its cardiovascular and respiratory functions. Even if we factor in the exception for buoyancy in sea creatures, this is still far too big. How is it possible for this to exist?

[Belatedly, he realizes that had been just a tiny bit advanced for an ordinary seven-year-old. He hastily pastes on a bright childish smile.]

I saw a program about it on television once! It was really interesting.

I was wondering...how many other people here can speak other languages?

[But then, she paused and there was a slight jostling of the camera as she shook her head.  Sorting out her thoughts.]

No,  not speak.  That doesn't really help any, with everything always being translated for us.  More like...read.  I was wondering...what languages everyone here can read?  Since written words have never been translated.  Not since I've been here.

[Penny's sitting in a public cafe, looking as generally stoic and grumpy as ever.]

I need someone with medical skills, like a nurse or something. And someone who can prescribe drugs, or sells them. You can meet me here if you don't want to answer, but don't waste my time.

[He provides the name of the cafe and its address, then pauses. He's not the most talkative guy.]

Is there some kind of library?
edgeoftheknife: I could be hitting something. Why am I not hitting something. (why am I still listening to this.)

[Yes, it's really arse-o'clock in the morning when this post hits the network. The background of the video is a console cafe out in the city, one of the ones that doesn't close until the wee hours of the morning. Erskine looks gorgeous as usual, although his suit is a bit rumpled and his hair is not quite sitting right, and there are dark circles under his eyes.

Still, he's smiling, with his chin in his hand as he peers at the camera.]

All right, Keeliai. What's the usual way to celebrate a Turtle anniversary? It seems to me I showed up in the Hotel around this time last year, although... the date's a bit fuzzy. I think it's been a year, though.

So how should I celebrate? Do I get gifts? I'm willing to accept silly ties and/or coffee mugs. I don't golf, though. No golfing... things.

[He frowns]

Is golf even a thing, on the Turtle? Football? Cricket?

[Someone has lost his train of thought.]

Most of you likely know me, but I know we've seen some new faces recently. I'm Raine Sage; I run the Healers' Guild, in the Water sector.

Some of the recent disappearances have left us somewhat shorthanded, and we're stretched thinner than is optimal. If you have any healing techniques that can be passed down, whether magical or mundane, and you're willing to apply those or teach or, optimally, both, we could use your help.

[A sigh. Her shoulders drop a little.]

Even if you don't, we can teach those willing to learn. Right now, the desire to help is the quality that's most important.

If you have questions, I can answer them here, or simply stop by and ask for myself or Fletch.

[Attached to the broadcast is a location ping indicating where in Water the building is.]

[In the background, Fletch can briefly be seen, yelling.]

Nurses!

[Raine twists to glance at him, then back, bemusement there and gone again so fast as to be almost missed.]

Yes-- for those of you from an Earth, nursing is a highly applicable skillset. Fletch, my second, is a nurse himself.

[Hence the yelling.]

As with the rest of us, he's willing to teach.

[Raine takes a moment to collect her thoughts again.]

--As a side note, I'm still personally interested in the common threads between worlds, and how different magical traditions interact and intersect here. It doesn't matter if you're an expert or not; I want to build a more comprehensive picture, so if you have some time and we haven't spoken much on the topic before, I'm curious.

Haaaas anyone seen Enjolras recently?

[Fletch's concerned face appears on the console. He's frowning down at a file.]

Come to think of it, Dove's MIA, too. [Damn. He scrubs a hand over his face.] If anyone's seen them, can you get them to contact me? This is putting a huge strain on the Guild.

Uh, just a heads-up that we might be a bit overstretched until we get this sorted.

Thanks.

[users might recognize the background of the welcome center, as Iroh had walked there after realizing that the strange sensation he felt might have been important.]

Well, I thought I was blacking out for a moment there... quite a strange feeling. And it looks like I've been gone for some months. I should have left a note, but I didn't expect that I'd be... well, whatever happens to those of us who leave and return.

For those of you I haven't met, my name is Iroh. I used to serve tea around here. And a few other things.

[ OOC: In relation to this event. The video feed from the console in the lobby of the Midnight Hotel is still showing a bit of static as it boots back up from the unexpected power loss and restart. In the background, the lights are also beginning to power back on. ]

Circuits stop and start, follow the path of least resistance, avoids the open loop. You can't make water flow uphill, but maybe we don't have to... we just need to complete the circuit.

[ Bisi has been watching some of these videos for a bit. It seemed customary for newcomers to make themselves known to the foreigner community at large this way. It felt odd, still; the concept of making her identity known. For pretty much as long as she could remember, personal identity was always pushed away, absorbed by role and community. She was the Operator for Ordis. The Tenno for the Lotus, and for the Orokin before her.

Here she was just... Bisi. The last person that knew her as Bisi had been Marguilis, which dredged up fond and tragic memories. Memories which threatened her stability of mind, causing sparks as void energy channeled through her and started to warp the environment around her. She noticed and clamped down on herself, forcing herself to breathe and center her emotions. It had been a relief of sort to find out that her connection to the void was still intact after she'd been here for a day or so; and a sad disappointment that she was still burdened by it.

She took a deep breath and put herself in front of the console. She'd rehearsed her words carefully before turning on the feed. ]

Greetings, fellow foreigners, and other Kedan who see this message. My name is Bisi, I only recently arrived. I've met a few other foreigners, but the majority remain unknown to me, and I would like to correct this.

I understand that foreigners are expected to trade services or possessions in exchange for food and shelter. Unfortunately, I have few possessions and am unsure what skills are useful, or that I possess any of them. I'm afraid most of my experience falls into the realm of warfare, and even then, without a Warframe my usefulness is questionable.

[ She had seen other people asking if there were people that were known to them also on the Turtle's back, which was apparently not an uncommon occurrence. She didn't dare to hope but... ]

I am also seeking a person, should they also happen to exist here. She goes by The Lotus. If anyone has information, I would be eternally grateful.

What I did before did not involve the use of the Force. [ Sounding like he's speaking to a small child. ]

The Force. Like magic?

Some would consider it as such.

It'll come back. My magic futzed out like that, too. But first... aha— [ The broadcast cuts out to Casey falling into a small coughing fit, as they finally manage the filter they were working for. ]

My name is Anakin Skywalker. I am a Jedi Knight from the Galactic Republic. I'm sure that doesn't mean anything to most of you, but I'm hoping it means something to someone out there.

[He looks a little tense as he doesn't appreciate being separated from everyone he knows]

I'm looking for two people: Senator Padme Amidala, and Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi. Both of them are good friends of mine and I'd appreciate finding them as soon as possible.

If you want, just shout "Cato Neimoida does count" into a group of people and if a bearded man comes to contest it let him know that Anakin is looking for him. That phrase should be enough to draw him out of hiding, provided he's around here somewhere.

I imagine introductions are in order.

[And he gives a curt little bow.]

Balthier, at your service.

And if I may pose a question - no, perhaps more a request -

[When the video signs in, it's not Erskine sitting at the console like usual. There's no one sitting at the console, in fact, but there's a fleeting glimpse of Anton, who turned on the video, before he moves aside. And then the reason for Anton turning on the video becomes obvious.

Erskine is in the middle of the Hotel lobby, holding a broom, and using it like a microphone. And he's belting out U2's Pride (In the Name of Love) with enthusiasm. Dancing around. Bending against the "microphone" at the really emotional bits. Hitting the screamy parts. And he actually sounds pretty darn good, considering the fact that he's one step shy of roaring drunk.

Valdis shows up in the video for a moment, dancing with him and laughing, and Raine can be spotted in the far corner facepalming and trying to pretend she doesn't know these dorks. They are all, for the record, wearing glittery party hats.

And any kedan or Foreigners that happen to wander by are getting personally serenaded.]

I'll admit, you've got one interesting place here.

[The voice belongs to a young woman, and sounds to be in her early to mid-twenties. A bit tired perhaps, but whatever stress she feels is being carefully restrained as she begins her plea for information - with an introduction naturally.] As practiced as that orientation is at the Welcome Center, I take it everyone is rather used to newcomers. So, hi. Name's Abigail, and I'm from a city called San Fransokyo.

[There's a pause that follows, but the hesitation is shaken off as she proceeds to her point.]

Just walking into the city in the first place showed me a lot. And keeping an open mind, the whole Great Turtle is begging a lot of questions, but I have one thing I would like to confirm.

For lack of a better way to say it, did time really stop back where we came from? Has anyone been able to verify it somehow? I ask because I transitioned here at a really...inopportune moment.

So... with the wave coming and the idea we might get out of the fog soon... I was wondering...

Would anyone like to start a garden? It doesn't have to be for any plant in particular, but I thought maybe helping something grow might help improve spirits after being so long in all this. [ There's a beat. ] I was going to use it to practice my magic but if anyone wanted to grow things the old-fashioned way, I'd like that, too!

It's just a thought. I'm not even sure where I'd be able to do it yet.
