[Today, Zatanna greets the Network with an unusually contemplative expression. Curious.]

Those of you who know me know that I tend to be way bigger on the magic than science stuff. Which is why...for those of you on the other side, I have a question. Mmm--no, not really a question, I guess. More like a...request? Kind of?

Basically, I was wondering how much anybody could tell me on electromagnetic energy or radiation or whatever you call it. Anything at all, but preferably if you've ever had any experience with it on a more...supernatural scale.

[So, really, she's not going completely to the ~~Dark~~ Science side just yet.]

There's nothing particularly supernatural about electromagnetism.

Electricity, when channeled through ferrous metals, creates a magnetic field.

The shaping of magnetic fields is sometimes a bit more art than science, by which I mean the specific laws and the number of involved variables are so complex that it is difficult to really predict how exactly they will manifest.

There's actually no radiation involved in electromagnetic processes, although the process by which electricity is created for it might involve radioactive processes.

[One might see the gears turning in her head as she listened to the explanation. It was clear from the look on her face that she understood about 90% of it, but that it wasn't entirely the answer she was looking for. Not just yet.]

So...radioactivity can be involved in the process of creating an electromagnetic. Did I get that right?

[That's what it sounded like to her, though the next part was a slight tangent:]

Don't take this question the wrong way or anything, but...do you have things like magic or metahumans in the world you come from?

Yes, indirectly. Nuclear radiation can be used to create electricity, or solar radiation can be harvested-

[ Wait, how does that work again? Electricity is charged particles, but then what is radiation, exactly? ]

I- actually I think I might need to brush up on the specific science. It's not my exact field.

[ She comes back a bit later to message Zatanna. ]

Ah, many apologies. Any kind of energy that is transferred by waves or particles is radiation - although the term in common parlance is generally restricted to harmful types. Light, itself, is a type of electromagnetic radiation.

[ Sigh. She's a little embarrassed she had to look this up. ]

Ah, to your original question... I suppose there's me.

[Hey, it was already far more than Zatanna knew, so she would hardly blame someone who needed a bit of informative brushing up. She nodded at each explanation, and waited patiently when Bisi needed to excuse herself.]

Nah, it's fine. This is already helping a bit. I think.

[If only because it was a lot of information to try and connect to her ongoing research.]

So you can do magic too? Or are you controlled by magic? Or did you mean something else?

I don't think the concept of 'magic' is very helpful. It seems to exile certain currently unexplained phenomenah as unexplainable period, rather than as something we haven't explained yet.

That said, we Tenno were feared precisely because we were 'gifted' with powers that defied explanation.

So short answer: yes, I have 'magic.'

[Why was everyone always so quick to assume that everything in the world needed an explanation? Granted, as a stage magician as well as a magic user, she was slightly biased on the subject. Half the magic was in not letting her audience know how it was done. Still...]

Maybe in your world, it's not, but in mine, it's a pretty fair description of at least one kind of power some of us possess.

[She figured that would be a fair compromise.]

Okay, so you're at least familiar with the concept. I think. [Again, unless "magic" meant something else in their world.] I only ask because there are some science-oriented people around here who are awfully hard-headed about the subject. But if you're open to the possibility...

...do you know anything about how radiation could relate to supernatural powers?

I think I'd need to know more about the specifics but...

I can actually control electric charge and magnetic fields using my abilities, and its possible that I gained those powers to begin with due to exposure to a specific type of radiation native to the Void.

Like I said, Radiation is anything that emits energy via particle or wave, so I'd need to know what kind of radiation we're talking about.

Do your powers change based on whether it's light or dark? Whether it's hot or cold?

Anything that admits energy...

[The words were spoken more to herself, a faint echo as she allowed them to process. That...would actually fit her understanding of her magic far better than she initially thought.]

No, nothing like that. [She shook her head in response to the latter question,] The only thing that's ever really affected my magic is how much energy I have at the time. Or other magical artifacts.

Was there something in particular that prompted this line of thinking?

Partially research on behalf of a friend. Partial curiosity of my own, once I started really getting into the subject.

There's this item that's been reacting in a very strange manner to my magic, as well as the magic of others I know in Keelai. I wanted to know more about it. How it works. That sort of thing. Problem is...I was sort of brought here before I could finish studying Science in High School, so I'm trying to fill in some of the gaps.

Ah, I found a very strange artifact myself.

[ She switches to Private ]

The college is making strides at creating materials and classes for courses like that. You can find me there - I've started teaching biology courses, but I'm at least familiar with the basics of other sciences.

[She took note of the filter switch, and though she wasn't that surprised, she was a bit curious.]

What did you find?

It was a coin. It actually proved to be the key link that allows me to operate this warframe remotely.

This is Bisi, by the way.

[...okay, scratch that: now she was surprised.]

Uh...hi, Bisi? [That wasn't supposed to be a question. Her bad.] So you found...a coin...that let you operate a warframe?

[A pause, letting that information sink in.]

I have no idea what that means.

For simplicity, it's a robot. I'm actually back at my house in the sky quarter right now, while using a public terminal at the college.

The coin gives me very lucid dreams - an important component of my communion with Mag.

The specific powers I manifest are actually modified by what warframe I am piloting. Mag converts my powers into manipulation of magnetism and electricity. Other warframes channel it differently.

[That actually helped some. Once she compared the 'warframe' to a robot, a clearer picture began to form in her mind. Even with mentioning lucid dreams being connected...she wasn't entirely sure how one could lucidly dream their control over a robot, but it certainly seemed supernatural enough to fall within her original query qualifications.]

Cool.

[No, really. It was exactly the kind of thing that would've fit right in back home, among her fellow metas.]

So would you say that coin you found is kind of like the source of your power?

Oh, definitely not. It just makes possible what in my world required a tremendous amount of power and manufacturing capabilities millenia beyond what this world is capable of.

My power comes from when I was lost in the Void as a child. It's poison seeps from me if I'm not very careful. The Second Dream helps with that.

The Orokin made use of our powers by giving us warframes, and using us to fight a war of their own making.

Okay, so not a source...but it sounds to me like it's at least amplifying what you already have.

[Sorry, Bisi, your story would have her absolutely captivated any other time--and she would have to remember to ask more about it later--but she was a little too focused on that coin. Mainly because, if the amplification theory was true...then it really did sound like the artifact Bakura had given her.]

Any idea where it came from?

None. I found it buried in the wood sector. A dream led me to it.

Now that you inquire, I would be interested to know more about it's source. Perhaps someone knows something about it.

Yeah, I'd be pretty interested in hear that too.

It's certainly not like mine...

[And since the connection was secured anyway, she figured there was no harm; reaching off-screen, she pulled out an item wrapped in cloth. Taking great care not to touch it, even though she knew it wouldn't harm her, she unwrapped it just enough so that Bisi would be able to see: a white, carved claw that appeared to be made out of some kind of raw material.]

It is certainly unique. The chains seem to indicate that it might figuratively belong to an animal kept captive in some way. Perhaps something dangerous.

What does it let you do, and where did you get it?

A friend found it. Brought it to me, knowing that I usually know a thing or two about magic.

And so far as I can tell...it amplifies our powers. At the very least, I can tell you that everytime I touch it, I get this rush of energy flowing within me. It comes from the same place I get my magic from. It reacts to other magic artifacts, too.

What's the source of your power, if you don't mind me asking?

[She shook her head.]

No, I don't mind.

As far as I've ever been told...it's me. My blood. I was born with my powers, which I got from both my mom and my dad. Especially my dad.

So are you working on some kind of theory? About these objects?
