[So it's been a bad week of a bad few months of a bad few years. (He hasn't even bothered to shave this week, it's awful.) Terry's sat himself in a cafe in Earth with an extremely weak (and overpriced!!!) coffee to make this post, since his suite is pretty much falling apart and he's fed up of dealing with it. He's also pretty tired and shabby looking, so he's opting for an audio post instead of video like he prefers, since that isn't exactly a look that inspires confidence.]

With the recent, uh. Hostilities. I've lost my office. All things considered, it's not really that bad or even unexpected, but it does bring me to my next point.

[He hesitates for a bit here, because the truth of the matter is that he's really not stable enough to offer counselling to anyone in good conscience, but like hell is he going to announce that in public.]

With all that's going on right now, I don't really have the time or the energy to offer my services and given the lack of interest [said matter-of-factly, he's not really surprised or upset about it] I don't think it would be any great loss if I took a break for a while.

If anyone is in need of emergency counselling, I'll be available - I'm in EA-1B - but I don't feel comfortable offering anything long term at the moment.

Typically, a lot more people need it than are willing to admit it. Not to mention the people who think it's a big waste of time.

You'd think they'd be more willing to admit to existential crises brought on by living on a giant turtle that other things. Least that's less personal.

I guess if you're that committed to being able to take everything in stride, you may as well go all the way with it.

[achievement unlocked: very nearly making Terry laugh. it's rare enough in and of itself that he has to take a moment before he replies]

Sorry about your office. [She sounds like she means it, but then there's a slightly awkward pause as she considers her next words.]

Are you okay, Terry?

[He doesn't sound great, and she knows that he and Brandon got along, and sometimes even the therapist needs someone to talk to. So she's. sort of offering. Albeit kind of awkwardly]

Yeah, I'm fine. aside from the moderate caffeine withdrawal anyway.

[he appreciates the concern and it probably shows a bit in his voice, but he's funny about talking about his state of being. funnier still about talking over the network about it.]

How are you doing?

God, tell me about it.

[She isn't sure how she's coping without four coffees a day, in all honesty.]

I'm okay, it's-- weird, Brandon being gone, but maybe it's for the best.

[He can go home and forget.]

[There's the soft sound of laughter on Ororo's end.]

Emergency counselling? Not me. This place is showing its true colours and keeps acting more and more like home. Bring on the Sentinels and it'll be like I never left.

[Bitter? Bitter.]

[He goes quiet for a little bit, not entirely sure how to respond]

You're a mutant?

[I'll take "questions asked by Captain Obvious" for 500, Alex]

Yeah. [Her tone's careful, and maybe a bit defensive.] You got a problem with post humans?

No-- Sorry. [ugh he feels so stupid] That was me clarifying rather than accusing.

[Then her tone'll just edge back from defensive to full caution.]

Then, yeah. I'm a mutant. You friend or foe?

Friend?

[He sounds a bit confused and hesitant, but mostly because that's not a question he's ever been asked before.]

You don't sound real sure about that.

I'm sure. It's just not a question I've ever been asked before.

Why's that?

I don't know. [probably because there aren't many mutants who are still mutants thanks Marvel] I guess it just never came up?

Then what's 'mutant' mean to you? [Because she can't imagine it not being a common question in a world where mutants are around.]

Anyone with an X-gene?

[he pauses thoughtfully, thinking of the best way to explain where he's coming from - since obviously they're either from different times or different universes.] People with any powers at all weren't really a thing where I grew up, let alone mutants. And by the time I got shoved out into the real world, anti-mutant sentiment was a lot less... Blatant. Than it used to be.

Weird. [A huff of breath.] Means you're not from my home, but maybe that weird one that's like it. Ever hear of Xavier or the X-Men?

Yeah, they're heroes. A bit controversial because of the whole mutant thing and people tend to flip-flop on how they feel about that, but they're still a big deal.

[When they're not all fighting eachother or dying horribly, anyway]

Is it similar where you're from, or...?

Least that's the same.

[Man, when did she get to the point that she's got to make comparisons between worlds to make sense of them? AND THEN ACTING LIKE IT AIN'T NO THANG. Turtle, you have done strange things to her perception of reality.]

Yeah. The X-Men are about the only good thing happening for mutant rights and the Brotherhood spends all their time making it worse. But we're pretty common -- mutants and all, not the Loserhood. More and more of us every day.
