II - Video.

( Evie is looking far more at home. She is, carefully, turning the pages of a large tome. Beside her, there is a lit candle. While some might find the flickering light bothersome, Evie is used to it. Within the various pyramids and tombs of Egypt, she depended on torches for light. Going back to electricity - even if it's available (she hasn't checked) - doesn't seem necessary.

After looking over one page, she marks her place with a strip of leather and looks up. )

I am making progress with the native's language. I stumbled across a poem that seemed to outline their alphabet yesterday. ( The alphabet is the bare bones of any language. She won't be able to do much with it, but it's a start. ) I don't mind sharing the information with anyone who might be interested.

( She shifts and picks up a spare piece of paper, tucking it into her bag. )

Aside from that, I think it's time I started exploring other sectors. Perhaps on foot would be best?

I have found that the progress may be sped up by the awareness that there are seventeen dialects of the language.

Oh? ( She brightens and quickly makes a note of that. ) But all dialects stem from the same language.

Obviously. However, trying to work through all - or, rather, any - of them as the same language makes the process frustrating.

[Small shrug.]

Just thought that the information might help. It was given by the most prominent merchant as he was offering to translate - at a price. Even if the number is misleading, the awareness of the necessity to classify within the patterns is helpful.

Would you know how I could contact him? ( She doesn't mind haggling, though she's not sure what she could haggle with. Details. ) Thank you for the information. It would have taken me some time to find and classify each dialect.

( Though, honestly, she'll probably do that anyway. )

I have heard the same, but I see no reason for that to stop us. There was a time when ancient Egyptian was thought to be too difficult to decipher as well.

Maybe what we need is some sort of Rosetta Stone here, too.

Unfortunately I doubt even having something like the Rosetta Stone would do us any good. It's not like it would outline a language that is familiar to us. ( Though it would be fascinating all the same. )

I've been studying the language myself, with a decent amount of progress by this point. It's fascinating, for all it's challenging at the same time, and I'd certainly be interested in this poem.

As for exploration, foot has seemed to be best, and of course, the least expensive.

I doubt you'd be a distraction so much as a saviour, honestly. All I've got planned for the day are endless board meetings.
