As the others said, soon after the June rebellion [ relatively speaking. ] the King was overthrown.

From then on, history is filled with ups and downs. [ THERE IS A LOT OF FRENCH HISTORY, GAVROCHE. All that ever happened and ever will. ] It all depends on the time, really. Kings and queens come and go as quickly as the seasons do. Government changes as often as human fashions. Earth is fickle; its people, fickler. The French are lovely, though, generally speaking. A few rough, burnt, bitter batches here and there, certainly, but for the most part, lovelier than most.

[ Gavroche blinks, and at first he's taken aback--he's not expecting a monologue, just a yes or no. But as he goes on Gavroche can't help but lean in a little bit. The way he speaks, it sounds beautiful. A different kind of beautiful than Cosette's way of speaking--he's descriptive, and oddly enough, it's like his words are warm.

From what I've heard, it's the same shit over and over again, gamin. We died, nothing changed for enough more years for us to be entirely irrelevant, the people continue on with their wretched lives, eventually something pushes them over the edge and they have start another damn revolution and the cycle continues. We are creatures of mediocrity, discontent and selfishness, Gavroche, and we may kick up our heals as often as we like, nothing will change human nature.
