Gavroche is from France, and speaks using a lot of French slang.

And that's why it translates so strangely? [ The slang on Krypton isn't nearly so thick. ]

That's my best guess. Your style of speaking carries through, so if Gavroche were to speak like a well-educated person, it would translate with full words and proper sentences instead of contractions and slang.
