[The video opens with Enjolras, who looks a bit worse for wear, considering his arrival here was right after he'd been gunned down with eight shots, knowing that all of his friends had died before him, save for Grantaire. But he IS here, and obviously startled, and in pain though he is, there is a bemused expression on his face as he peers out skeptically at the new technology, not entirely sure he understands the explanation he was given, but willing to make the attempt at mastering it, if this is how communication on this strange new island works.]

Greetings, those of you who are seeing this. I am...not quite sure of how I might address people I have not seen when I attempt to speak to them. The progress of the keedans seems to be above that of man where I am from to have wrought such an invention as THIS and the things it allows us now.

I am Enjolras and I have come from Paris, at the hour of what I thought to be my death in 1832, and instead have been installed here by some means I cannot fully comprehend. In that life, I wrote, and read the law in hope of practicing one day. [Best not to mention what else he did in a place the mysterious Emperor might see it. He mistrusts this figure already for being what he is.]

In this new one, I am not fully certain of what I shall do, but I have seen the other on this island making postings of all sorts and thought that I should speak as well. I am told that seeking a job here is quite important, but tell me what there is most need of, and I shall gladly apply there if they will have me do so, and if there are others I might speak to who know more of the world whence I came?

[And he is frowning, deeply, troubled by some stray thought perhaps, as the video feed shuts off, leaving him remaining there in his suite, pensive.]

I am sorry. It seems we know each other well here. I am told that I have hit my head or something along those lines. The others were not with me, so Combeferre could not tell me exactly...do you know him? If you know me, I should imagine that you do.

I cannot say what since I do not remember myself. [And again the 'have been told' line is working fairly well for his circumstances here. It's a good line, really.]

Well enough for me to count you a friend, at least: there was a battle, in Atamischar--that is another city, where we made port, and we fought alongside each other there. Of course I know Combeferre, he is [A SCIENCE BRO] a friend as well; is he with you at present? It is good you remember the Amis, at least, even if you do not remember Keeliai or anyone you may have met here.

And it is good to meet you again, even if it is for the second time. Pray, do you require anything--medicine, or supplies, or information? I should be pleased to assist you however I might.

Then I will look forward to renewing that friendship with you.

[And Enjolras is giving him the small half smile reserved for friends, yes. As much as he does not know him well, there is...something about the dragon that suggests this is a being he would very much like to have a friendship with. He is reminded, in some strange way, of meeting Combeferre and knowing, even then that they should be friends so there is that at least.]

Yes, Combeferre and I are here together, which suits us well. I cannot remember...anything before I woke here, yes. Perhaps with time that will change. And I am well for the moment, though perhaps if you should hear of those looking for workers. I am told it is important we secure jobs here and would like to do my part to make things better.

Oh, as am I. [He does not precisely smile--not as humans might recognize it--but there is something undeniably pleased about his expression.]

Well, I am not sure I would be of much help in that regard: I work odd jobs myself, when I am not selling fertilizer, but I am given to understand Mr. Bruce Wayne and Mr. Tony Stark are the primary foreign employers, in the city, and I hear they pay well. And I trust Combeferre will take proper care of you, in the meantime--but pray let me know if there is anything I can do?

[Oh good. So the dragon isn't upset. Enjolras would have been awkward about that, considering. Temeraire, he reminds himself, so he stops thinking of him as "the dragon" right from the start. How would it be if he had thought of Feuilly as "the worker" or Marius as "the puppy"...Actually, that last one...Never mind the thought there. He is going to end it before it gets further along at any rate. ]

Of course he shall do so and I would not worry only that I was told that it MUST happen so stringently. It does cause me to wonder what the state of things is here if that is something to be required, and what happens at the jobs themselves. It seemed a bit...ominous if I might say so. To know that other foreigners are hiring IS good and gives me some hope on that regard so you have already helped quite a bit.

There has been some trouble with the kedan, recently: the turtle is ill, you see, and the crops have been failing, and the rationing has taken its toll on all of us. It is not fair, at all, since we did not even ask to be here in the first place, and it is not as if we have been taking more than our fair share of food, or other resources, but as it stands the kedan do not always see it that way. I think you had better take work from other foreigners if you can get it: that way you will not be turned out for no reason, if things get worse.

Has there then? Someone, Mademoiselle Kara from the other planet had mentioned that the turtle was not well, and I was told of the rationing, but not so much the rest of it. Of course it is not fair, and though we are here against their choice? We ARE still here and still asked to contribute.

[Enjolras's pensive gaze is shifting a bit here, to one of more concern, and there is a slight spark in his eyes, a shift in his position as he leans forward at the screen, not even aware that he is doing so.]

And of course we SHOULD contribute if we are here, but to ask this of foreigners, and to treat them as secondary. HAVE any been turned out yet? Are they paid fairly, would you know? Surely there ARE some who have needed to work in kedan owned businesses and I would be curious as to their treatment or how I might find out about it.

[He knows that spark: has felt it himself, sometimes, when he has seen injustice done.]

I should not be surprised if some have, but you would do better to ask the others directly; as unfriendly as some of the kedan are, they require what I sell for the crops more than they dislike me, and in any case even among the unfriendliest, there are few brave enough to argue with a dragon.

Mm then I must do so, soon as possible. And in a way no kedan or the emperor will have a chance to see it. [Can that be done on this network? Enjolras suspects that it may not be entirely safe to do so, but to be sure, he will ask someone, and not via the network, about that.]

It would seem that I have jobs to search for in nearly every sector of the city then. As a new foreigner, it is something that no one could question too much, and perhaps it will allow me to get close, determine how we may act to solve this problem, what methods we have to solve it. It will not do for me to get impossibly upset before I know for certain but there is no harm in finding out.

I can certainly see where your abilities would deter them from that. A dragon of all beings certainly has some capital to function with.

Oh, that is a good plan, but you might be careful about it: there are a great many gangs in the city, particularly in Fire and Earth sectors, and I should think they take to the foreigners even less than the regular kedan do.

I could not imagine that they would; [And Enjolras is giving him a little nod of thanks for that assessment.] It is one thing to be careful in general but much more when I know what I must be wary of, thank you Temeraire.
