[What is visible of the room is obviously in Earth Sector, both from the décor and from the view out of the large, open window over Lois’ shoulder. As for Lois herself, she’s still somewhat damp and visibly grumpy about it. Her sigh is explosive as she runs a hand through her hair.]

Kidnapping, fine. Another day in my life. Alternate universes? They’re not so much my thing. I try to leave that to the heroes. Murder and mayhem are plenty for headlines.

[Lois rolls her eyes as she says the latter. Despite the few sentences, she manages to convey even more information, even subconsciously: her face and tone are expressive. Exasperation, impatience, and the voice of experience shine through. So too does her underlying concern, though. She is absently twisting some hair around a finger. Her engagement and wedding rings glint as she does.]

Lois Lane, Daily Planet, if anyone’s heard of it.

The last time I ran into an alternate world, at least it was someone’s… misguided attempt at a paradise. Nice enough place, but even that ended in a fight. One day I’d like to get a freaking vacation with one of these things.

[Pause.]

So… are there any competent newspapers around this place?

[So much for wanting a vacation.]

Too much missing. Learning to understand the spoken language is different from the written, but surely there must be a kedan out there willing to teach.

And people can learn by immersion, though I guess that usually works for speech, but maybe someone'll pick up a few tricks.

Immersion is the most efficient way, I've found, but there doesn't seem to be a language barrier here, at least in terms of speaking.

Damn. Is there anything written down in English here, that maybe also exists in their language?

I know it probably wouldn't help, but...

Not that I've found. If it does exist somewhere, it would probably be a little helpful. Better than nothing, at least.

That sounds like a good starting project, then. This whole world will open up with access to the written word.

It's amazing how much a little piece of paper with something on it can do, really.

[Peggy's no reporter, but she still knows the value of information.]

Amazing, but not surprising. The context may be different, but I make a living off that fact.

You're a journalist, yes? I'm quite familiar with information analysis, though it is in a very different context. A little less public.

[She nods.] I am. And my dad... was in the army, so I have a far idea about 'information analysis.'

You could say that's about where I am, actually.

I deal with intelligence services sometimes.

[They don't like her. Shocking.]

I can't imagine that always goes well. [But there's slight amusement in her tone;]

You know how it is--blustering machismo to cover fear.

Information can be a powerful weapon. The fear may not be entirely unfounded.

[Her wicked grin says she knows this well.] It's still bravado.

In some cases, I'm sure.

[Peggy for one is actually pretty glad she's never had to deal with the press herself. Not that she minds them, and she's certainly seen the exact reactions Lois describes.]

And I'm sure the same will happen here if we actually try to find out too many specifics about this place.

I think we definitely need to crack their writing.

Oh yeah. I hear it much more, I'll fall in love.

Nice to meet you, Peggy. [If they end up professionally investigative, Lois might well call her 'Carter,' though. Army brat.] I'm guessing we'll all need as much information as we can get.

[She laughs at that] It's a wonder they don't tire of repeating it.

Likewise. And yes, the more the better. In this situation, I'm all for sharing as much as possible. We're all largely in the same boat, so to speak.

I've seen it before. Way too many people can say 'no comment' ad nauseum.

[Her smile is wry.] It's the biggest boat I've seen in a while that wasn't a world proper.

They could stand a little more creativity.

And a living boat, at that.

Creativity takes energy. [As Lois knows well.]

Actually, I've seen a living space ship before. I'm pretty sure it was from another dimension, too.

An effort some may not feel like putting forth.

I can't say I've seen any sort of space ship, to be honest.
