[For those who have seen Temeraire before, the dragon is noticeably more tired-looking than usual, and very nearly pale underneath his dull black scales. Though he is seated comfortably in front of the console, he seems nevertheless agitated: his whiskers are twitching slightly, and his breathing is strangely rapid.]
I was out to the shell's edge very early this morning, since my usual stock of fish had run out, and I could not help but notice how difficult it was to fly, and how much more difficult it became, the higher I went. It reminded me very much of Atamischar: the pressure in the air felt very similar there, and it took me much longer to stay aloft than it has previously.
But that is nothing new; a great many of you have been feeling weak, of late. I will cut to the chase, since there does not seem to be any way around it: the barrier around the turtle is shrinking. I do not think I could venture more than a hundred metres out before I was forced to turn back, with precious little to show for my troubles. It seems to me this must, too, be related to Asti's illness, but as for a cure--I am sorry to admit I have none.
[He pauses, a little awkwardly, clearly unused to asking for this sort of favour.] In the meantime, with my usual supply of food curtailed for the foreseeable future, I should like to offer my services. I have recently completed my lessons with Lieuen, and am fluent in the most common dialect of the kedan language, though I am sure I might puzzle out any closely related dialects, given time; if you have any material you should like translated, with the utmost discretion, pray let me know. Failing in that, I have retained at least a little of my strength, and would be happy to assist anyone where I may.
[Another pause, and he switches off the feed.]

video;
You certainly do not need to pay in order to spend time with me, surely? It does not seem a terribly good deal, at that.
Re: video;
Well that is where you would be quite wrong on the later point. And you are a friend who could use assistance. That is hardly the same as buying your company.
[In any case? He's going to attempt it because really. It's not right that Temeraire have to worry about things like food right now. There is enough to consider at this point.]
video;
In that case, I should be glad of both the assistance, and your company.
Re: video;
Voice
Laurence asked me to speak with you about using some my wind spells to assist your flight, although that may have to wait until my skills have completely returned.
[Private]
When I spoke to Asti, he- he gave me something. Ever since that night, I've been able to read the Kedan language, and I may be able to help you translate.

You have? But that is terribly useful: I only wish I had thought to ask, myself. Can you read more than one of the dialects? I am given to understand there are a great many.
voice; standard encryption
I- don't know. I haven't tried reading anything besides the most common one.

There's not a lot I need help with, but I can bring some food.
[And get to meet a dragon that isn't trying to kill him!]
video;
Are you quite sure? It is only that I should hate to be a bother, when there is hardly enough food to go around as it is; and it seems to me a much more reasonable exchange if there is some service I might provide in return.
In any case, I do not believe we are acquainted? My name is Temeraire: and yours?
video;
[He smiles back at Temeraire, a bit more doofily then he meant to because wow, he's talking to a dragon, this is really cool.]
Oh, my name's Asbel. It's nice to meet you, Temeraire.

[Is that... an apology? Well, it's as close as you're going to get, fictional creature.]
video;
I did, as well, but they did not keep very long, in the heat. [Or you ate them all, Temeraire.]
Re: video;
Well then. I don't imagine it will last you very long, but at least it is something.

[A beat, then, off-handedly.] I shall find us food, if you like. I would even be grateful for a cow at the moment, but fish will have to do for now.

And here is one Marius Pontmercy looking very much awkward, fidgeting before he clears his throat.]
Monsieur.
[And a polite and respectful nod, just to show that he doesn't intend to begin another argument.]
video; basic encryption YOU TRIED
M. Pontmercy.
[WHAT DO YOU WANT]
video; excuse it took a good hour and a half for him but AT LEAST IT WORKED
But he is here now so!
Also it takes a while for him to respond because he's fidgeting and uncertain of how he should go about asking this. what a winner]
Other than translation services, would you be... [COME ON PONTMERCY YOU CAN DO THIS] would you be, for a fair trade, willing to teach the language?

Hey Temeraire... you holding up okay, other than not being able to fly?
video;
But you do not look at all well, Jack; how long has this been affecting you?
Re: video;
I guess... about a week. I kind of ignored it for the first few days, I thought it was just the heat.

IT takes Gavroche about an hour, and he can't carry everything up to climb around this time, so when there's a knock on Temeraire's door it's him. He has a huge bundle with him, though--he'd pulled out his hoard of Juulan he'd been saving up and, from the looks of it, bought as much fish as he possibly could. ]
'Ey! Ey, ey, open up, huh?
actionspam; screeches
He stares for a moment at what appears to be a walking pile of fish, uncomprehending.]
I--
...is that you, Gavroche?
