[A device clicks on, and a face appears on the network: a thin one with a large nose and brown messy hair. And glasses. Needs the glasses to see, you know. He grins, all teeth.]

Alright, then, this is neat, isn't it!

[He's not really saying that to anyone in particular. Don't worry, happens all the time. You'll know if he's speaking to you directly. Most likely.]

Never seen this before. Well, seen things like it, but nothing's ever quite the same in two places, yeah? Bit rubbish that everything in here's made of wood, makes my screwdriver a bit obsolete, but still...

[He laughs, and steps back from the device, standing with his hands on his hips. He's in his suite in the Wood Sector. Pretty nice place, if you ignore the lack of sonic-ing abilities.]

Right. So. I'm the Doctor, just the Doctor, thank you, and I suppose I was brought here, same as all of you. Now who's got something interesting to tell me about their time here?

[A pause, and time to ruminate over a question that's been in his mind since he got here.]

And does anyone know what this planet's base is? Doesn't seem like most other ones. A bit harder, strange in places. What's it made from?
faceofbeau: ({✗} Let me say this in little words)

[There's a disturbing thought. It may not be the first time the Doctor's been without the TARDIS, and it probably won't be the last, but it's disturbing nonetheless.] What's the last thing you remember, Doctor? Before here?

[The Doctor gets a very careful look, and Jack quickly encrypts their conversation to the best of his ability, considering the unfamiliar technology. He needs to make sure the Doctor is talking about their last encounter, and dropping Rose off with his meta-crisis self, because if he's not...]

Can you tell me exactly what happened? [It's a painful question, no matter which goodbye the Doctor means, but Jack needs to know.]

[He exhales in a rush, trying not to look at stunned as he feels, and he's mostly successful. Of course, if the Doctor really looks, he can see it, but there's not much Jack can do about that.

Boy. He's farther ahead than the Doctor in their joint timelines. And it kills him. He wants to tell the other man that- well, it won't be alright, but it'll get better. He wants to let him know that he'll see Rose again. But Time is a finicky thing, and foreknowledge can be dangerous. Instead of any of that, Jack continues on with the reason he'd initially asked the Doctor about what he remembered.]

I was in Cardiff, hunting down a Weevil. Met up with an unfortunate accident, and woke up here. I was assuming that I fell through the Rift, but then I don't know why you would have ended up here as well.

You're right. [Of course. It's still the Doctor, after all, behind in timeline or not. Jack looks thoughtful, leaning back and pressing his thumbs against his lips.] It wouldn't make sense for you to get pulled from the TARDIS, by the Rift or a supernova either one. No way the old girl'd let that happen.

[He pauses, looks up again.] What about Rose? She's been here longer, but- where was she before she got here?

Huh. [Well then. Jack sighs, shakes his head.]

None of this makes sense.

Tell me about it. [He shakes his head again, but lets the thought go, for now. Instead, it's replaced by the amused look from before, a little grin.]

You'll be jealous; I'm in the Metal sector. [Aka, somewhere the Doctor's screwdriver would work just fine. Which- speaking of...] I don't suppose you'd be willing to fix something with that fantastic screwdriver of yours, would you?

[Jack's got a Vortex Manipulator that doesn't work in the Vortex... courtesy of the future Doctor's screwdriver...]

[In answer, Jack holds up his wrist, tugging his sleeve back to show his manipulator. His tone is wryly amused.] I know you're not the biggest fan, but without the TARDIS, it's our best bet of getting out of here. And I have it on good authority that you know how to fix it.

[Have a significant look, Doctor.]

Where exactly are you? I'll be there as soon as possible.

[He may not know the city yet, but that won't stop him from figuring out the best way to get to the Doctor and hightailing it there.]

[Well, that's a lot of help, Doctor. He arches an amused eyebrow at the Time Lord.]

Just stay put. I'll find you.

[The feed blinks off. Eventually, the Doctor will hear a knocking at his door.... eventually.]
faceofbeau: ({✹} You have got to be kidding)

[Seriously, Doctor? Have a half annoyed look: the other half of the look is just glad to see the Doctor. Jack huffs, then laughs, and shakes his head.]

You try running all over the Wood Sector trying to find one person's suite. The scanner on my wristband only helps so much.
faceofbeau: ({★} Oh yeah?)

WO-1C. [Of course Jack got the room number, he has no intention of having to hunt the Doctor's room down again. He rolls his eyes a bit, but it's in a fond manner, and then he's shrugging out of his greatcoat so he can get to his wristband easier. A minute later, and he holds it out.]

Not that I need to tell you, but just be careful with it, Doc. If it's fixable, it may be our only way to get us all back home.
