So... this is a place between life, death, and dreaming, huh? Well, I guess I've heard of weirder things happening.

[ there's some shifting and fiddling before kara continues. randomly introducing herself to a network like this is a little awkward. ]

At least I've got some experience with the being trapped away from home thing. Alternate realities can be a huge pain in the ass like that. [ p...ause... ] In any case, is there anyone on this network that knows of a city called Metropolis? I figure if I'm going to be stuck here, I might as well see if there's anyone at least a little familiar around.

If you haven't heard of it, do you mind if I ask where you come from?

[she gives one last grin at the screen, then switches off the feed and gets out of the chair. She promised Kara chocolate, so while she's waiting for her to show up, Steph wanders into the kitchen and grabs a couple of the bars she'd stashed in the cupboard, then she starts a pot of coffee just in case Kara needs caffeinating]

[ kara zips over there fairly quickly. (hoorah for superspeed) when she gets to the building, she actually knocks on the door instead of going for the window. seems a little pointless to do that on a one story building. ]

It's open! Just, uh, move it to the side. [Steph calls out as she makes her way to the door, which is currently just propped up against the frame. Steph has mostly been using the window to go in and out, because it's easier; she really needs to fix that thing.]

[ she moves the door and gently replaces it behind her. ] Maybe you should see about getting someone to fix that for you.

[ and now she can't help the huge smile that crawls across her face. ]

Things have been a little hectic. [what with the... gang.. war and everything] I'll get to it.

[Steph grins and opens her arms for a hug] You too. I was worried you were gonna be from before we met. I think I might've cried. [she's only slightly exaggerating there]

[ bff hugs are such a wonderful thing. ]

[Steph is just going to hug Kara as tight as possible. It's pretty clear that Steph could use the hug]

Small mercies, but close. What's the last thing we did together? Everyone else is from at least a few weeks behind me, it kind of sucks.

We fought those hard-light vampires and had a sleepover.

[She tries not to let her expression fal too much] I'm a little further ahead than you, then.

We really should do that more often, though, just without the vampires.

Eesh, you'd think people would have the decency to have us all be from similar timelines.

[ she pauses, and a thoughtful look crosses her face. ] There's no vampires here, are there?

I know, right? I mean I can understand if it's a little tricky to pinpoint, but Cass is a good couple years behind me. [that had been an intensely awkward conversation]

Not in the local population. And if any have been brought here, they've kept hidden.

[What went wrong in her life that she's giving this serious consideration]

Lois is from before everything went to hell with New Krypton. I'm really hoping I never have to tell her about it.

[ she strokes a nonexistent goatee ] Hmm... Well. We could probably have a sleepover here without any vampiric worries, then. Provided I didn't just jinx us, of course.

Do you think - Clark would have? [that pause is because she wasn't sure what to call him. "Superman" seems weird in context and "Mr. Kent" is too formal. Her life is hard.]

Considering both our luck, we're going to turn on the consoles to see a vampire making a post.

Or... not seeing them. How does that work again? [They don't have reflections, but can they be recorded?]

I don't know. Timelines are tricky with what you can and can't tell people.

[ she doesn't think kal would keep secrets from his wife, but if it could screw things up he might. ]

I have no idea. I've never actually met a real vampire.

Bats made me tell him about what I'd been up to. [maybe she's just a little sulky, there]

That's probably for the best. I've heard they're kind of assholes.

Bruce should know better. [ she has half a mind to lecture him about the dangers of time travel and knowing the future. ]

I'm not surprised. Even when they're in romance novels, they're kind of assholes.

[Steph's mouth twists into an unsure expression] I think he was just - worried. [Which is strange to consider, because Bruce. But her entire relationship with Bruce has been strange recently]

To be fair, I think everyone in romance novels are kind of assholes.

That is a thing he's been known to do. Even if he's really weird about showing his worry and affection. [ it's said with a fond, yet wry smile. bruce is basically a weirdo, but kara loves him to bits. ]

And yet, they're so entertaining.

He hugged me. [Her expression shows how truly unreal that experience had been.] I don't even mean like - let me hug him, he took the initiative and everything.

Just don't start trying to learn human interaction from them, it'd be the start of a bad sitcom and I don't wanna play the plucky best friend.

... That's a little strange.

Don't worry, I think I've learned my lessons about learning human interaction from fiction and reality tv.

Shit's been intense. [That is... actually a pretty accurate assessment of the entire situation]

Thank god, reality tv might actually be the worst thing ever invented.

I'm hoping it's just 'cause we're all a bit unsettled being here and that things will go back to normal soon. I've had enough overly emotional conversations to last me a lifetime.

[but she just shakes her head at that] You have terrible taste.

[She sort of just - pushes a hand through her hair and gives a one shouldered shrug.]
