[ After plenty of debate, Rung has chosen to go with video for his first post. While it's entirely possible that there may be other cybertronians here, or races who are hostile to his kind, or perhaps even those who have never seen an alien before, he doesn't want his first impression on the community to be tinged by deception.

When the feed starts he smiles, stately brows rising slightly above his optics. To all appearances a humanoid robot, in shades of orange, tan, and teal, his demeanor is calm and pleasant as he addresses anyone watching. ]

Hello! It's a pleasure to meet you all. My name is Rung. I would like to be very upfront with you all: I am an alien, although I assure you I am entirely nonviolent toward all.

[ He straights up slightly, still friendly but now a touch more businesslike. ]

I realize that being taken from one's home and placed in an new, unfamiliar, environment can be quite taxing, and I hope that we can all help each other along as best we can. If you find yourself struggling, however, I would be more than happy to help you one-on-one.

I am a psychiatrist, among many other things, and I would like to offer my services to the general population. While I am trained in a non-human species, I believe I would be capable of applying my skills to all sentient races with behavior fairly analogous to my own. Considering this species gap, though, I would feel wrong requiring payment, so please consider this a free service until further notice.

[ His smile widens, bright and sincere. ]

True, but I've found that sometimes it's a matter of personal opinion who in a group is the 'alien' one. Even when on a foreign world, it's a natural tendency to think of oneself as the norm.

Huh. Yeah. I guess it is for most people.

Cybertronian. We're a mechanical species. Am I correct in assuming that you are a human?

Mechanical species? So. Like. Sentient and reproducing?

Yeah, I'm human.

Yes, although our reproduction is different from most organics I know of.

[ Rung makes a small, curious noise. ]

My people have extensive information on your people, although I've never seen such a variety of your kind in person before. It's rather interesting.

Didn't really expect you to go the mammal route. What do you do, build babies out of spare parts?

[The curiosity is mutual, but it's still a little weird to hear that they have 'extensive information' on humans.]

Are you guys stalking Earth? Because I'm thinking that would make alien conspiracy buffs' century.

Sometimes, yes, although they are not 'babies' as you would recognize them. Our species skips the infant stage and is more or less 'born' in their adult form.

No, but sentient life forms tend to like to keep track of each other. Science is one of the great passions of our people, and our xenobiologists enjoy keeping their records full.

Kinda like the Greco-Roman gods then. I guess if it works for you guys. It doesn't give them much time to learn. Do you just download all the basics into their memory? How to walk and talk and everything?

As long as your xenobiologists are only looking and not experimenting, that's OK. Creepy, but OK.

The basics are there, yes, but the rest is learned and acquired over the course of our lifespan.

I can assure you we are not experimenting on your people.

Huh. There's nothing that says life has to be carbon-based.

Really? Cause you left xenobiologist off your credentials.

It's a question of morality and legality. Experimentation on alien sentient life breaches both of those concepts.

Oh. Can't fault me for worrying though. How was I supposed to know you guys had those? I'm sure there's aliens out there that don't have'em.

I can assure you, we are no threat to you are anyone here. I in particular am not a violent or malevolent person by any stretch of the imagination.

No harm done. It's perfectly natural to be suspicious of an alien race you are unfamiliar with, particularly when they start mentioning your homeworld and people.

Heh. Yeah. It was a little "Uhhhh. Why do you know us?" But anyway. Hope your shrink business goes well.
