[Charles looked probably particularly short when in comparison with the egg he sat beside. The egg itself had a soft luminous glow about it that was reflected in the telepath’s expression. He had one hand resting delicately on the shell and every so often would give a soft chuckle as if he were being tickled.]
How absolutely extraordinary.
[He said softly, before giving a blink and focusing back on his device. Someone had gotten distracted by tiny turtle emotions.]
I was curious about the draw I’d felt to come down this way and to this, [he looks up along the shell and well, even if it towered over him it was still an,] egg. I do not normally suffer from such compulsions.
[His control on his own mind was too strong (as a rule) and at first he’d been quite bemused at the strength of the compulsion, edging towards concerned. However, once he’d drawn closer and the egg had begun to resonate, everything had seemed to settle around him and he couldn’t imagine why he’d been concerned.
Which, of course, was concerning and had led to Charles investigating the egg with telepathic tendrils and oh what a fascinating response he’d gotten in return. In fact, it had him chuckling again as he brushed his hand lightly over the shell, almost like one would rub a baby’s back to sooth.]
I would not call it a conversation, per say but whoever is inside certainly seems to have a sweet and positive outlook on life at the moment. At least this one does.
I apologize if this has already been covered elsewhere but has anyone else come across an egg like this one?

action;
[He doesn't say 'shorter' but the miming should really give away what he's indicating. Vague gestures indicating height was a factor here. Didn't expect him shorter and he really didn't expect him to have a cane but best not to comment. Could be rude. Or ruder?
Either way, he does the polite thing and approaches, offering a hand as a proper greeting.]
None at all, I've gotten a pretty good lay of the land by now. Is this your new friend? Got any names yet?
action;
Still it was amusing to watch the Time Lord trip over his own rudeness and as such Charles adopted a wide-eyed, innocent sort of expression. Why Doctor, he has no idea what you're trying to allude too; you flamingo limbed bean pole.
Waiting for the Doctor to express a proper greeting, the extended hand, Charles stepped forward to take it, returning a firm handshake that was confident without being crushing.]
This is, in fact the egg, rather difficult to miss and no, no names. I get the impression that the creature inside might desire the option to name itself.
[Not in any clear sense of the word, just the strength of emotion lead Charles to believe that whatever lay within the egg (he had a theory!) was going to be aware enough to desire to name itself.]
action;
Pulling his hand back, he kept a smile on his face as he strode towards the egg, curious to have a good up close look at it. Bigger than he thought it'd be, he was tempted to touch and manhandled it but he didn't want to risk breaking it and upsetting Charles.
Yet. He'd bide his time to the prodding and poking.]
I suppose they might do. Have they stirred inside the egg yet or are the only signs of life it's tentative emotional telepathic connection? Can't be very old but it already has some small level of awareness, impressive considering.
[Reaching out slowly so Charles had the option to stop him, he gently placed his hand on the eggs shell.]
action;
One hand balanced on the head of his cane, Charles watched the Doctor with the wariness of a new parent but he made no ove to stop the Time Lord's exploration. At least when it came to light touches, were the Doctor to attempt to manhandle or move the egg, he might find himself with a head full of protective telepath.]
Mostly just a telepathic emotional connection, more instinctive impressions of the very young. [He confirmed.] Rather like an advanced mechanism that the vulnerable young of any species expresses as a way to ensure survival.
[Though he was affected by that very mechanism, Charles was scientific enough to understand he was being effectively manipulated. The baby turtle was vulnerable, it required protection and attention in order to survive and it was doing what came instinctive to ensure both.
Hands on, the Doctor's innate Time Lord psychic ability may pick up vague impressions of what Charles was experiencing in full technicolor from the baby turtle.]
action; sorry for the lateness ;___; curse you work
The Doctor is careful with the new bundle of -- egg? Not so much a bundle of joy but, well, it did feel like one. It was happy. Strange. He wasn't sure if it was exactly happiness he was feeling but it was very positive, radiating good vibes for all to feel. Though he did find it peculiar, what could it possibly be that chipper over? Perhaps it didn't know what was ahead? Oh the awkwardness and general frustration of living.]
It's a bit like that time I met a baby Wallarian. It didn't come in an egg, more a sort of weird jelly casing but it gave off this strange feelings. Everyone that went near it just help happy.
[He smiled fondly at the thought, unable to help himself.]
Can't blame them. Lucky sods. It's all ahead of them, from the great to the tedious. What's there to be upset over?
[He kind of wished it was stronger, really should of worked on honing his telepathy skills at the academy. That was always Koschei area, he was better at ... well, goofing off and running away.]
action; no problem! Work and money come first!!
Again, a basic survival instinct. It is quite vulnerable like this, cannot hurt to try to coax positive and protective instincts in those surrounding one, eh?
[It just made basic survival sense.]
I know on Earth that mother turtles do not usually stay with the nest, though I doubt the habits of a turtle from Earth have much to do with Tu Vishan and his species. Still, I have to imagine that if this egg’s mother were still around, with a telepathic ability like this, the baby would be bonded.
Rather than reaching out to strangers.
action; money is indeed glorious!
Clever. I can imagine it's got plenty of defence from it's caretakers then?
[He imagined Charles was very capable of defending the egg if he needs to. Telepaths hold a fair bit of whammy when they wants to. 'Whammy' being a technical term, of course. No arguing with him there, totally an apt word.]
I don't think we'll ever know much on this particular breed of turtle, especially since we haven't even experienced what a newborn would be like. But I can't imagine they'd be that different. Most tend to follow similar sorts of habits through universes. Species that are sort of grouped together and share behaviour.
[Like a universe turtle law.]
action;
More important, is what the Doctor is saying and though the egg was a bit of a distraction, Charles brightened at the words.]
Wait, are you saying that across the universe, there are some commonalities in form and behavior in species, even though those species cannot possibly have any direct genetic link?
[Bring up genetics and you're definitely going to get a response, Doctor!]
action;
With an amused smile, the Doctor turned to Charles, nodding his head. He'd only dabbled in genetics but it was a fascinating topic.]
I'm not saying it's entirely universal but I've observed it as a bit of a pattern in my travels. For whatever reason, certain creatures uphold certain traits, even when evolved or changed or an entirely new breed. It's peculiar to say the least but I've always assumed it was just a matter of a mistake on my part. Like when people think whales are like fish when they're actually mammals like us lot.
[He never claimed to be an expert. Still, sometimes dog-type aliens act like dogs. Even if they aren't the same.]
