[ Porenn isn’t at all familiar with this kind of technology at all -- they’ve nothing like it back in her world -- but after a succinct explanation courtesy of the kedan and a bit of fiddling with it, she rather thinks she’s got the hang of it. Staring back at the terminal screen is a tiny, bright-eyed blonde woman in her thirties, dressed all in mourning black, with a curious light in her eyes. ]

My goodness -- well, isn’t this interesting? The kedan say it’s not sorcery, but unfortunately, they neglected to explain how it works, exactly -- only how to use it.

[ A wry smile. She’d very much like to see how it’s put together. ]

At any rate, I suppose I should introduce myself. My name is Porenn, and I’ve only just arrived here to this...rather charming place. My quarters are in the Earth Sector -- I don’t suppose any of you who’ve been here longer would mind showing me the neighborhood, so to speak? Oh, I’m sure I could explore the city on my own, but it would be nice to have some company.

[ She doesn’t mention where she’s from, or more importantly, that she’s royalty. It’s not as if anyone here really needs to know, and that sort of thing might only hinder her in the future. She speaks with a smile on her face, but her fingers are doing something else entirely: to most it may only look like she’s gesturing as she speaks, but she’s actually leaving a secret message for anyone who might be able to detect it: If you can read this, contact me immediately. And let’s keep things discreet, shall we? ]

No, especially since we seem to keep falling in and out of favor with them. I wasn't here for that, but there was a spell of rationing and things were a little tense.

[ The smile disappears from her face, and she looks quite grave, all of a sudden. ]

That sounds quite serious. Since the kedan are rather close-mouthed, would you mind filling me in on what happened?

[ Oh lord serious people. Olivia can do serious when she needs to for work, but this isn't work. She doesn't even know that many details either. She gives a bit of a shrug. ]

I don't know much, I wasn't here. I know that the turtle got sick so things weren't going so well and they had to start rationing. Things were a bit strained between us and them, but nothing actually happened as far as I can tell. It was a month or two back, I'm sure people who were around at the time could tell you more.

Oh, I'm sure they could.

[ Something she'll have to investigate for sure. But it doesn't seem like something this woman is terribly interested in talking about, and besides, there's plenty else for Porenn to learn. She smiles, tilting her head to the side. ]

Ah, but enough dreary talk. Perhaps you can tell me what you all do for fun in this place?

[ Fun is much more Olivia's thing unless there's people to shoot. Then that's sort of her deal. But. ]

Well, I personally love getting coffee. It's a luxury where I'm from so I love how easily you can get it here. What else... Hanging out with friends, I guess. There's a lot of different people here that you wouldn't ever be able to meet, so it's pretty fun spending time with friends. I'm also working on opening a bakery with a friend, and that's fun. [ She gives a shrug. ] You can do almost anything you want here.

Ah, yes, it is a rather social place, isn't it? I'm enjoying myself, but I suppose I haven't been here long enough to really get to know anybody. I hope to change that in the near future.

[ She lets out a little laugh, though there's a light of curiosity in her eyes as well. ]

Coffee? I'm afraid I've never heard of it. What is it, if I may ask?

[ 'Scuse her, Olivia is just going to ignore the first part of that for now and address the clearly important thing here. What's coffee?!? ]

Coffee is a fantastic beverage that is often served warm but can be served cold as well during warm weather, or based on preference. It's a blackish brown color and some people drink it "black" or without anything added. It has a somewhat bitter taste like that, and some people add sugar and milk to soften the bitterness. It has caffeine as well, but you can find decaffeinated kinds as well.

But if you want to get to know people, I would be absolutely delighted to take you out to coffee whenever you're free.

[ Well, now Porenn knows what gets Olivia excited. She's so earnest, though, and Porenn rather likes her already -- besides, making friends is something that she'd very much like to do now. It helps keep her busy, and she has an awful lot to think about lately. She laughs, delighted, and nods. ]

I think I'd like that very much, I think. But oh, where are my manners? I haven't even introduced myself. I'm Porenn.

[ Yeah, don't get Olivia started on coffee, unless you're in the mood for coffee. ]
