First Atom; Video

[The visage of a man comes onto the screen. He is unfamiliar but fascinated by the technology of the computer terminals. However, that is not the pressing topic at hand. ]

Greetings. My name is Robert Lutece and I arrived here yesterday with my sister Rosalind. She and I are both scientists and will be converting her suite into a laboratory, therefore we have no need for the furniture in her residence. We will be offering it to whoever is interested.

[He sits and waits in front of the computer terminal, looking rather calm with his eyebrows slightly raised. They just sit that way naturally, default expression that gives a general appearance of being constantly unamused.

It's her turn to talk now. Though this would be a little easier if they were reporting from the same terminal.]

[Oh, so physics, then. Holiday found herself blinking at the woman, though. That sounded more like science fiction.]

Window between worlds... That can't be possible.

[And now a different voice cuts into the conversation - a deep, abrupt, and rather cold voice, who has been following the broadcast up to this point and found this line to be the greatest interest. He cannot understand a single word about quantum physics or suspension, but a simple idea like 'windows between worlds' gets through to him.]

So you mean to open these windows again. For what purpose? Evacuation?

voice; PLEASED TO DELIGHT also you're the luteces i had to

[Hold on. Javert has to take a minute or two to process and tease apart Robert's meaning. The deep frown on his face is palpable in his voice.]

Say I take your word for it and this is all possible. [And to be frank, he is very willing to believe it, considering his recent personal experiences with Malicant. There is nothing beyond the realm of possibility anymore. He cannot risk writing anything off.] It is a dangerous game you're playing, trying for other times. There is the chance you open a window to war and destruction. What then?

[There is a silence for a few moments, as if the man on the line expects Robert Lutece to volunteer further explanation. When it doesn't come, he prompts tersely,]

Well? Such as? I don't think I get your meaning.

Or a quick escape, [murmurs Javert. It is still a dangerous contraption, when placed in the wrong hands. Imagine what sort of chaos would result if the gang members got ahold of a doorway or five! They would become impossible to catch.

On the flip side, in the event of a disaster in which one needed to traverse the city to get to a 'safe' house, it would become a blessing. Do the benefits outweigh the risks? That is the question.]

For starters, then. [What else is on that laundry list of uses? Another dangerous question.] And will you intend it as a public transportation network? That anybody will use?
doc_holi: (excuse you)

[She's about to say there's no such thing as other worlds, but uh. Yeah.]

So you're trying to build a device to leave? Or is that same device how you arrived here?

[She's going to ignore the other guy and let you two handle him.]
dotsanddashes: (Deep sigh.)

[personal profile] dotsanddashes 2013-08-28 08:19 am (UTC)(link)
Not necessarily to leave. Being in one place is valuable for tests. We didn't arrive here via the Tear, TECHNICALLY, though it was...a factor.

[Eh, let Robert deal with that guy.]

Tear. You mean the window you mentioned earlier?

[These two... might be able to get everyone home, if they were legitimate. Since Holiday's been here, she was very little room left for doubt in anything, especially Quantum Physics.]
dotsanddashes: (I see tails.)

I do, yes. The Lutece Tear. My - OUR invention.

It took a great deal to get it up and running, though. And it seems we'll be starting from scratch here.

... Could you send people back to their homes with it? Theoretically?

Or... bring things here?
dotsanddashes: (Deep sigh.)

[Rosalind cants her head to one side, thinking about her answer to this question.]

Mm...anything can be done theoretically.

The question is. if there is a property holding everyone in a state of quantum uncertainty to begin with, the first question is whether and how we can crack the walls.
doc_holi: (fine then)

[personal profile] doc_holi 2013-08-31 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Something certainly brought us here. It's possible that there could be something keeping us here to prevent our bodies from complete molecular collapse... if any of the theories like that have any promise, that is. It could simply be that we're here and don't know how to leave.

I suppose the first step would be trying to figure out if that property exists or not.

[Don't know how they'd do that... or if Rosalind is even on board with all of this. Holiday's mostly musing to herself.]
dotsanddashes: (Heads?)

[personal profile] dotsanddashes 2013-08-31 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Hm. Indeed.

[Actually, Rosalind is enjoying this conversation - no larking about, no stupid questions, just fact.]

I should like to discuss it over tea sometime, if you would be interested.
doc_holi: (happy)

[That's good, because Holiday's been enjoying herself, too.]

That sounds nice. I wouldn't mind it at all. Feel free to contact me whenever you're interested.
dotsanddashes: (In the lab.)

I will. Expect to hear from me after I get our housing situation sorted.

[She smiles - a tiny thing, but a rare one as well.]]

I look forward to it. Thank you.

[It'll be Holiday's treat.]
