1st Flight [video]
Oh for Thor's sake, they said this would be easy...
[There's a curious green eye studying the communicator before it zooms out to reveal a young boy of about fourteen or fifteen, his face covered in scratches and scars that look both fresh and old, the oldest one a nick on the right side of his chin. He grins a bit tiredly, sitting back and snapping his fingers.]
I knew I could get it to work! Man, if we had things like this back home it'd make communicating with other tribes easier...
[He fiddles a bit, the screen flicking off as he discovers the other functions, a bit of text gibber jabber appearing before it switches back to full video, then he remembers the people he spoke to said that others could be watching.]
Uh, hi. I'm Hiccup. Great name, I know, but I guess it's kept me from being snatched up by gnomes and trolls all these years so it's worth something at least. If you couldn't guess, I'm kinda new...just arrived really. I don't think I was awake for a lot of the talk though, getting knocked out by a giant dragon tail would do that to you. I think I'm awake. At least I hope so anyway. This place doesn't look like any Valhalla I ever dreamed of.
[He reaches down to scratch at his leg.]
There's...a lot of things here that we don't have at home. I hope I don't blow anything up. And, uh, this is gonna sound kinda strange but I don't suppose anyone has anything I can, er, walk with? [Pause.] One of my legs kind of...doesn't work. They helped me here but I don't know how I'm going to get around...
I guess that's...it? Yeah.
[He goes to get up but lets out a yelp as he puts pressure on his injured leg and he falls backwards, crashing to the floor.]

[It's better than his leg being cut off. Speaking of, he gives a wince.]
Isn't being a healer just kind of spreading some herb stuff on the wound and then praying to the Gods?
[He's pretty sure that's how his grandfather used to do it :|]
no subject
Uh, no. It's nothing like that. [Because what are gods anyway?] Healing is using waterbending to redirect chi to mend wounds, and I've been taught by the best in the world. Well, my world anyway.
[A beat.]
You'll understand when you see it. What suite number did they put you in?
no subject
[Yeah, most of that just went straaaaight over his head.]
Uh, WO-2D I think. Whatever that means.
Video -> Action?
Um, it's different from magic, but a lot of people get that confused. [Hiccup gets a free pass on calling it magic because he's young and just got here.
bendingisn'tmagicOMGyoupeople]Means you're in the Wood Sector in one of the two story suites. Just hang on and I'll be there in no time. [She gives a single wave before heading out. Because a giant polar bear dog cuts down on travel time. Hope Hiccup doesn't mind loud, happy barking outside his door.]
Action!
[It actually sounds rather interesting, if it hadn't been for the fact that he was experiencing a little bit of painful twinge in his leg. He's rather interested to see it in action. So when he hears the barking outside the door, he can't help but raise an eyebrow as he gets up, holding onto the wall in order to hobble over to the front door, hesitating a little before opening it.]
Uh, Korra, right?
Action;
Don’t worry, that’s just Naga. She’ll stay outside. [She pats the sling bag held up by her shoulder.]
You ordered a medic?
no subject
Uh, right. Right, I did. Come on in.
[He turns away from the door, gesturing her into the place.]
I'd offer mead but it doesn't look like this place has any. I don't even want to know what that humming thing in the kitchen is.
no subject
That’s just the refrigerator. [After a second, she realizes that they may not have that where he’s from.] It’s a big cold box that holds your food. Pretty useful, especially the freezer part.
[She didn’t want to judge that based on the furs he was wearing. After all, she was wearing an animal skin of her own. She digs out both her waterskin and a metal thermos from her sling bag.]
Here. [She hands him the thermos containing a slush made from the preservatives she won at Sinbrilee.] Have a seat and try some, you’ll see what I mean.
no subject
[He raises an eyebrow. Why did they need this thing for freezing? Couldn't they just use snow or something? Hiccup inclines his head in a slight shrug before he takes the thermos from her, eyeing the metal thing before wrapping his hand around it, raising an eyebrow.]
Try some what?
no subject
[It takes Korra a few blinks before she realizes why he asked that.] Oh, yeah. [She screws the top of the thermos off.] Some of that. It's slush, or at least that's what Jack calls it, and it kind of fits.
[Popping off the lid to her waterskin, she waves her hand gently in the air and the water comes out, forming a small sphere of clear H2O.]
Take a seat, enjoy the drink, get your leg healed. All perks of having the Avatar on the turtle.
no subject
[That's about the only thing he's able to compare it to at least. He lifts the thermos to sniff at it as he used one of the crutches Willow had brought him to hobble over to the couch, taking a seat. Hiccup nearly does a double take when she pulls the water out of the skin, but between talking dragons and Loki, is it really so shocking?]
Uh, right. Okay.
[Whatever an Avatar is ._.]
no subject
So you got busted up by a dragon? Only dragons I knows are of the talking variety and they're nice. [Because Iskierka is nice and breathes fire so she's cool, okay?
She places her hands on the ball of water and it glows a bright blue.]
Brace yourself, you might feel too comfortable.
[Said with a smirk before she applies the water to the mottled area. Ease and relief flow out from the waters touch as it winds it's way in and around the wound. Anesthetic properties of water that bending brings out so she can work without injuring her patient.]
no subject
[Still, he takes a sip of the slushie and is immediately hit by the flavor. They don't have a great deal of fruit back on Berk, due to being a cold climate, things like berries and oranges and the like were unknown to the uncivilized world. Still, it's actually quite nice and he takes another sip, curiously watching the ball of water work.
He'd cleaned his leg up earlier around the bite marks still left on his skin, tears in the flesh that would probably be there permanently even after she heals them over. They'd been falling from such a height, Toothless had probably grabbed hold and pulled on the breaks - Hiccup still wasn't sure how Toothless had stopped him from being burned to a crisp.
His face gives a small twinge as he feels some of the relief ease around the wound, feeling it tingle. He attempted to give his toes an experimental wriggle as she worked, letting the slushie cool his slightly raw throat.]
no subject
You have wars with dragons on your world too? Both Temeraire and Iskierka’s world is like that. They fly into battle with a crew on their back. [She pauses long enough to ask the question before returning to moving the glowing water to cleanse out any possible infections while mending what it could. This was pretty bad, worse than Jim’s spiral fracture had been.]
There’s no more dragons on my world. One of our nations wiped them out. [That may sound slightly bitter. Korra loves large creatures if Naga’s any indication. Only a few more minutes before she has to just leave the wound alone. She could speed up the healing process only so much for something this rough.]
no subject
[He gives a small hum around the rim of the thermos, nodding.]
For three hundred years. They raided us because they needed to feed this monster of a dragon, or they'd be eaten themselves. We didn't find that out until recently...well, mostly me anyway; so for a long time we thought they were just mindless beasts.
[He makes a face at the idea that dragons had been wiped out in her world, frowning deeply and pulling the thermos down to rest in his lap, glancing down at it.]
That's what my dad wanted to do. I tried showing them what I'd found out but...I screwed up. He used Toothless to lead them to the nest and nearly got our whole tribe wiped out. That's how this happened.
no subject
[Her eyes move up every now and then to see Hiccup as he explains. One kid trying to stop a genocidal war.] You remind me of someone I've never met. Sounds weird, but it's true.
[Aang stopped a war after the rest of his nation was wiped out. Giving a genuine smile that forced her to close her eyes, she finishes the healing that she could do and the glowing fades away.]
Not being able to sit by and do nothing? I know the feeling. You did the right thing. [A wave of her hand and the water flows back into her waterskin.]
That's all I can do for now, Hiccup. You should be able to walk on it okay, won't hurt as much. With a few more healing sessions you should be right as rain.
no subject
Well, when you've been banished for trying to show everyone a different way, there's really nothing else left to lose.
[He doesn't elaborate anymore on that as he shifts his leg from the top like he's been doing, then tries to curl the lower part inward. It doesn't, but it doesn't hurt much anymore, not like it had. He gives her a grin.]
Thanks, Korra.
no subject
Just your leg, right? [She couldn't help but return the grin as she stood up.]
Any time, and don't run. I don't think you'll be able to, but just in case you get the crazy idea. Keep the thermos- er, the cup. I'll pick it up next time. [She can't resist, and tousles his hair. A brave boy doing the right thing, she's taking a shine to him.]
If you're ever in the Earth Sector, I'll be volunteering at the Green Lantern clinic. Stop in and I can check up on you there too.
no subject
[He has no idea how long he was in a coma for after all. The hair ruffle catches him a bit off guard, not entirely used to people being overly friendly of any sort. The most he gets is a clap on the back from Gobber, or at least that was how it was before he began succeeding in dragon training.]
Earth Sector. Right, okay. I guess one of these days I'll get out and start finding my way around.
no subject
[A smirk.]
You’ll know this place like the back of your hand before long. Trust me. [She patted his shoulder before turning to leave.]
Use the network if you need anything else. Me or someone else will help out. [They're good about that stuff.]
