[video]
[Nita's at an anonymous cafe console, chin propped on one hand with a cup of something steaming at her elbow.]
Something occurred to me during all that rioting. A lot of us are from civilizations that don't really do sword fighting anymore, right? But that and arrows are pretty much all they've got here. If anyone wants to learn how to use a sword--or a knife or a staff or whatever--I can teach you. I come from a civilization that still does a lot of sword fighting.
[That sounds more dry than boastful. Atlanteans are warlike douchebags who enjoy a bit of stabbing each other over disputes, and that's not Nita's scene. She pauses for a second before giving fair warning:]
But, uh, it's hard to learn? Not like with guns. You're going to have to practice a lot to get tolerable, never mind good. So don't say I didn't warn you.

That's about where I am with this whole thing, yeah.
video;
[ He hesitates a moment before he asks: ]
In the land whence thou came, is it common for women to be taught the arts of war?
video;
Pretty much? Commoners don't usually learn more than the basics unless they serve longer than their conscription terms in the army, though.
[I am wildly making things up about Atlantean society.]
video;
video;
[She's matter-of-fact about it. Nita doesn't lead with her rank, but it's not something she hides, either.]
video;
I beg thy pardon, my lady. I had no idea I was speaking with a lady of such high esteem.
video;
Do I look like I care if you mess up the titles?
video;
My apologies, then. I -- in the world whence I came, such matters doth hold the highest of importance. But if thou wouldst prefer, instead, to be addressed in a fashion more suited to one of common birth...
video;
You make it sound so dire. Everybody but Atlanteans calls me Nita, but if it's seriously gonna bug you, I'm a princess of the imperial house and you can call me whatever you want.
video;
on the one hand, yes, it would make him all sorts of more comfortable to address her by her proper title. On the other, Steph did impress upon him the importance of understanding that not everyone comes from the same world or culture as he does, and he has to keep an open mind... and his internal struggle is plain on his face as he thinks it over, brow furrowed. It takes him a few moments to respond. ]
If that is the mode of address to which thou art accustomed, then I shall endeavor to treat thee the same.
video;
What you're born isn't what makes you. A king told me that.
video;
[ Mandorallen is obviously still struggling with this. He's been trying to be as open as he can, especially after Steph's advice; and it's never been a strange notion to him that the society he comes from is narrow-minded. He knows that birth doesn't determine everything -- his friend Durnik, whose ancestry couldn't be commoner, is one of the finest men he knows. And yet, there's just that mental hurdle he can't quite seem to get past, even now. ]
video;
[For all she's willing to call him "you dummy" in front of everyone, Nita's devoted to Namor, and it shows.]
Look, I--
[Realization hits.]
--we never really introduced ourselves. On the surface, I go by Namorita Prentiss. Like I said, it's "Nita" to...basically everyone.
video;
Indeed we have not. It is my great pleasure to make thy acquaintance, Nita. I am Mandorallen, Baron of Vo Mandor.
video;
[Look out, you're being teased. Gently, since it's Nita.]
video;
Thou art free to address me as thou wilt.
video;
[Grin.]
no subject
Thou art indeed a willful one, Nita.
no subject
[She comes by it honestly.]
