[Hey there, network! Have a Spider-Man!]

So, those of you who know Spider-Man know how he's -- I'm-- always swinging around on webs, right? Well, truth of the matter is, I'm running short on the stuff and not entirely sure how to make more, so I need the help of some of our resident geniuses. I dunno, Tony Stark maybe? Somebody who's good with chemicals and technical stuff.

[So here's an instance in which Peter feels it's a better idea to pull his mask on and reply with video. Because--]

Wow. Is this another alternate reality thing? Because I'm starting to feel like I'm drowning in the multiverse theory, and you are totally freaking me out.

[Thankfully the video feed is mostly just his head. Because the rest of his costume is still pretty banged up. And Spidey's totally not even in his assigned suite, so he's feeling pretty identity-secure on multiple levels.]

Could be. Depends. You from an Avengers universe or an Ultimates one? [Because that's how Miles distinguishes them.]

[That makes Peter tilt his head curiously to one side. Under normal circumstances, that's just such a weird question.] Ultimates.

I'm gonna take a shot in the dark and guess that you've been here longer than me, so I've gotta ask -- Why are they called Avengers? What're they avenging??

Finally! Somebody else gets how little sense "Avengers" makes!

[Then Miles realizes what this means. If he's dressed like that, and he's from a universe with the Ultimates...]

This might be a little forward, but would you mind meeting in person? Yanno, Spidey to Spidey?

[Spider-man is American, right? Frank hopes so anyway, the only languages he knows well enough to write on are English and Latin and he doubts many people understand archaic Latin.]

i always thought it was the kind of thing you could just make. like one of the superpowers.

How doesn't anybody else get it? Reaction like that must mean there totally isn't an answer, is there?

[He hesitates as well. Peter's never met this Spider… Boy? Spider-Boy. Why hasn't he, if he's a superhero that knows about the Ultimates and seems to have a spider theme going on as well? At the very least, Jessica could've said something to him. So why--

Um. First things first? Please tell me you go by Spider-Boy. 'Cause like I said a second ago, I'm still kind of totally freaked out.

How does a Spider-Man run short on webs? Isn't that part of being a spider-person? Making webs?

[Miles rubs his head, sheepish.]

[He draws in a breath, holds it for a second, then lets it out again.]

This week is getting up there in the rankings of Weirdest Week Ever.

Okay. Thing is-- I'm new here, and I'm sure you know that this totally isn't my city. So. [Where to?]

Sorry. [And he is, but it's probably about to get worse.]

OK. There's this super tall tree-building in Wood Sector. Way taller than all the rest. Meet you there?

[He hesitates for just a second, considering. He's still recovering. But he can probably take it easy heading over there and then suit up and scale the tree once he got there.]

Super tall tree. Got it.

[Miles will be waiting at the top of the tree, wringing his hands and trying not to be nervous.]

[It takes a little longer than it would've otherwise, but soon enough Peter's up the tree and balancing himself on a branch toward the very top of it.]

I want you to know this now-- I have a lot of questions for you and I'm not letting you get away without answering all of them.

[Miles gulps, but he expected this.]

OK. You can go first, then.

[He adjusts his position a little bit, trying to get as comfortable as possible around the strain in his side.]

First-- Who are you? And why are you, y'know, suited up?

You're the one who introduced yourself that way. It's not my fault you led me to believe that you were a spider-person.

[Miles looks around, but part of the reason he chose to be up so high is so no one would see them. He pulls off his mask.]

My name is Miles Morales. And as for the why, all that really depends on what was happening for you right before you came here.

[Aka he's not about to tell Peter Parker he dies unless he has to.]

[Miles. He'd spoken to Miles before. For a moment he can only stare as he starts putting all the pieces together in his mind.]

...It's because I died. [It's weird that it's so easy to say when his mask is on.] So you-- Did you like, take my place, then?

[OK so he knows. That makes things a little less difficult.]

Yeah. I got bit by a spider, and then you... died. And at your funeral Gwen Stacey told me what your uncle had said, about power and responsibility. So I started putting on the suit. Just a cheap knockoff of yours, at first. Then Spider-Woman found me and gave me this suit. From SHIELD. Then I met Gwen and your aunt and she gave me your old web shooters. But now I'm running low on fluid.

carrying spider webs around is even grosser!!!!

( Someone who isn't going to ask where the solution came from!! )

If you have a sample of the solution, I might be able to come up with something for you.
