Hello Keeliai. I am Shockwave. Jor-El [A gesture to the man standing to Shockwave’s left] and I wish to announce the creation of Wayne Enterprise’s Science Division in the Metal Sector.

It has been in the process of being readied for some time [the equipment they felt needed wasn’t on the turtle; it took time to build the tools needed to build more advanced equipment] but now we feel it is sufficiently equipped to bring others on.

Everyone is welcome if you have even the slightest wish to help us, or help increase the level of technology in Keeliai as a whole. We’re currently looking into alternatives for the consoles - but there’s any number of projects.

[It’s a very large space they’ve set up in, with a very open floor space and high ceiling. Shockwave was insistent on the latter.]

While a background in or familiarity with the sciences or engineering would be preferable, it will not be necessary. We are willing to accommodate anyone willing to learn.

I am Commander Spock, the resident head of the science division aboard the USS Enterprise, a Constitution-class starship. Are you providing recompense for those who offer their services?

[Both of them, and you as well. Science for everyone.]

Recompense would be provided for time and labor, as well as workspace, equipment and materials.

I am amenable to working long hours as I do not require the same amount of sleep as a human. Do you have any preference for the subject of my studies?

[Neither does he or Shockwave.]

Our overall goal is improve the level of technology present here to higher standards. Ideally most of what we will work on will be able to be produced in greater quantities for later distribution or be able to be used with that aim in mind.

[While science for science's sake is a worthy pursuit, there's also something to be said about improving the quality of life available to those here.]

[ Conundrum. He wants to contribute but he isn't sure the Prime Directive ought to be bent even further without first consulting with his captain (never mind that Jim has pretty much smashed the thing to pieces already). It's the principle of the thing. Spock hasn't even mentioned warp drive to anyone that doesn't understand the functions of a starship, so putting something physical into this world for the unsuspecting populace to learn from is a grey area of responsibility. ]

I must first consult with my commanding officer. While I believe my contribution would be significant, I am bound by the laws of the Federation that I serve when it comes to applying that knowledge. Nevertheless, I am interested in your offer.

While Kryptonian culture was xenophobic, to the point of cutting itself off from contact with other planets thousands of years ago, rather than open itself to others (and even then it was disinterested in the progress and cultures of other species, assured in their own superiority) Jor-El had been the foremost scientist of Krypton's Science Guild, and a philosophial outlier as well.
