Recently, I bought a personal item from one of the auctions in Markutte. In light of recent network posts of a festive Terran nature and having been exposed to Christmas before with far more ceremony, purely out of deference for a family member, I am aware that giving is very much in the spirit of the season. As purchasing gifts for a wide range of individuals would be a waste of resources and time which I must covet for my scientific studies, I am instead inclined to use the instrument in my possession.

It is a Vulcan harp.

[ Instruments, literal instrument ... Get it? ~~Whatever, his attempts at humor are golden.~~ Straight-faced, Spock leans back in his chair and settles it against his right shoulder, beginning to play. His left hand is bandaged, but he pays it no mind; after the post, green blood will have bitten through and the wraps will need changing.

Firstly, Brahms Intermezzo is played to invest people in the music he studied intently during his recreational time as a child. Shortly after that lulls to a close, you might think this stuffy Vulcan has nothing more interesting to offer but, son, you would be wrong. Music is mathematics, after all, and Spock adjusts the knobs on the instrument to alter the octaves and sounds to more of a guitar-quality. That's when he delves into an improvised piece still kicking around his memory, composed long before he set foot on the Enterprise. His final performance is a gentle carol he is very familiar with, for his own personal reasons, and he doesn't rush it into the previous natural rhythm in the slightest, almost playing for someone ... who has expressed their preferences on the matter before. (Perhaps the family member he mentioned at the start, for attentive listeners.)

This instrument is constructed with the ability to phase through the auditory capacity of each.

[ He adjusts the dials and strums, turning it from a harp into a guitar and back again, hitting something like a banjo in the middle. ]

Well that's bloody efficient. I guess I shouldn't be surprised considerin' you Wulcans and your penchant for efficiency. I gotta wonder though. Your species is all about logic and not feelin' an' such, so why is it you guys got yourself instruments? I guess I'm askin' 'cos music always seems like some emotionally driwen thing.

Musical resonance is a useful tool for instructing Vulcan children in understanding sub-space frequencies and other similar patterns.

It is not frowned upon to invest minimal hours compared to the majority of time required by more applying far more useful skills to the betterment of society.

Well I guess that's certainly a fuckin' way to do it, then. But if it's used for somethin' to aid wigglers, what's the point in pursuin' it beyond that?

[He's not trying to be condescending or anything, just more so curious since Spock is so set on not feeling anything, or more so, that Vulcan's can't feel anything like enjoyment. What's the point of a hobby if you don't enjoy it?]

It owns calming properties to abandon ones mind in a field which supports and challenges its growth. Given the mathematics of rhythm inherent in the music sheets I worked on, I was most stimulated by furthering my talent

[Eridan isn't even all that involved with music really, but the way Spock breaks it down like it's some mathematical equation, or something so soulless, it's kinda staggering even to the most casual of fans.]

Oceans are notable sources of inspiration for humans. Though you are not one, those around Tu Vishan may prove useful in prompting your creativity. Arguably, given your aquatic nature, you are better suited to utilizing it.

[He thinks for a moment, pondering the suggestion.]

Yeah, probably. I'll think on it. Guess I should decide what sorta instrument I should focus on before anythin' else.

Think you could giwe me a few pointers on pickin' up a instrument later? I may not know much in terms a playin' yet, but I do know they all wary well enough that not all adwice will work for ewery instrument, but either way, any tips would be helpful an' appreciated.

Really? I'd enjoy learnin' how to play that proper, to be honest. It's a fine bloody instrument from what I'we heard already. [That and well, he likes Spock and it'd be cool to learn to play an instrument from Spock's world.]
