Where I come from Mako is a girls name, Makoto is a name for boys and girls though you see it more with boys.

Isn't it Keno? The kanji for "Ki" translates into tree or wood or spirit and the and the kanji for "no" translates into field or civilian. It's common to use surnames where I come from too.
