[ The woman seated in the centre of the video feed is pensive, worry in the lines of her mouth and the tension of her brow, but when she's sure the feed is working, those lines make a small shift until she's smiling - lopsidedly, sure, but genuine - into the camera. If this device does what they've told her, she'll have no complaints. ]

A good day to ye, friends. [ Whoever she's addressing. The uncertainty has her lifting her chin in unconscious bravado. ] I'm not a face any of ye'll be knowing, but if all's true we're to be allies all the same. The name's Anne Bonny, and I'd surely be obliged to any of ye with an idea of what to do for money in this fine city I'm to live in. I'm not in the mind to be stepping on toes, but it sounds like there isn't much call for a woman looking for shipwork round these parts, and war's no steady employment.

[ She pauses, then seems to come to some decision with a grimace. She'd abandoned barwork, and gladly, for piracy more exciting opportunities, but that's a world away. She adds, ] Something to the tune of serving drinks would be grand, for a time.

[He spends approximately .009th of a second looking pensive about this, but Jim's never been one for keeping people in suspense, and his resultant grin is broad and cheery.]

Oh aye, but it's more than probable employment I'm looking for. [ Her arch look in reply is about as sincere as his thoughtful one, but still she's struck by the thought that saying too much about 'ships' could have some consequences. ]

I'll have to know ye better before my ships become your business, Mr. Kirk.

[The cheekiest absolute smile. He's a fucking charmer, ain't he.]

[Who knew fiddling with the console would turn up a friend. Edward doesn't spend much time using the device -- it's strange and unfamiliar to him, and when it serves as no more than a convenient letter bearer, what use is it? The people he'd want to send messages to aren't here. So imagine his surprise when a cursory glance over the network turned up his former quartermaster, of all people...

He's not sure whether to be glad to see her, or annoyed for her sake she's stuck on this damned turtle as well. A selfish part of him is glad for the company, but he'd sooner put shot in the brains of that part of him than pay it any more heed.]

[ So much for her idea that his departure had taken him out of the influence of... whatever brought them here. She startles when his face appears on the feed, mouth opening and closing in a perfect imitation of a fish, and in the next moment she's up from her chair and out of the camera's range so violently that the chair goes clattering to the floor.

For a second, anyway, then she's back, leaning over the desk, with a sharp: ]

Don't go anywhere, Kenway. [ And then she's gone again, though he might be able to hear her calling Jim! from further into the suite. ]

[Yeah, no, never mind, she's gone. Shocked and more than a little puzzled, at least he does as told and stays at the console (what else can he do?), although when he hears her call it gains a raised eyebrow. Does she have company?]

There's a coupla places that could use a good barhand 'round here.

[ Her raised eyebrow at that question is hard to miss. You've not seen dives - she doesn't know the word but guesses the meaning well enough - until you're skimming dead cockroaches out of barrels of ale every morning so you can serve the finer stuff, and that he even asks means that's far below what they're used to. ]

Can't be saying I do. Anyplace is a dive if the men're deep enough in their cups.

There's this place around here, run by one of our crew, that's into a bit of drinking and all. Could try there, or could give a local bar a shot. This one place, down in Wood? It's been looking for a good hand for a while. Owner and I have an understanding about things, so's I could put in a good word for you.

There's a few bars around the turtle, you might want to look for Bryn though, she owns the Brazen Turtle and might be able to offer you a job of some sort.

It also depends on what other kind of skills you have, apart from shipwork though.

[ His look gets a double-take and a quiet exclamation, but she's careful to let her reaction go no farther than that surprise. Two days of blanching at people that shift their shape as easy as changing clothes is beginning to harden her to it, and she knows it's a kind of weakness to startle so easy. To compensate, she matches his familiar tone. ]

And the same to ye. Hell, but it'll be a time before I'm used to all this turtle business. What skills are ye looking for?

Well, there's a lot of different job opportunities in the city, bar work being one. If you have skills with working with other people from a higher position then you could probably find a managerial job. Just depends what you want to do.

As much as anyone in a crew that's seen battle, aye. [ She's hardly squeamish, but her medical experience is formed from necessity and the lack of qualified doctors within their sorry republic rather than training.

"Ship work" - that's one term for it.

[Tess - sort of knows what she's talking about, or at least has an inkling. Just because there aren't any literal ships still in operation where she's from, well - doesn't mean there aren't people who are still basically pirates.

Or smugglers, for that matter.]

Better than most I've heard. [ She shrugs, more of a tilt of the head than the shoulders. Ships need care and skill no matter who crews them or what she calls it, and a knife's a knife whether it's used on fruit or flesh. ]

It's early days to be bored in this queer place.

A wise man once told me if you can't make money during a war, you can't make money. [Said man was eccentric and a scoundrel, but wise nonetheless. She'll give him that much, so she says it in good nature.]

I just got here, myself, so I don't know a whole lot about the jobs around here, but I imagine there's opportunity for quite a bit if we're expending resources on war.

[ his effort to seem unthreatening is appreciated, but less effective than he'd be hoping. Still, after creatures that change their shape, giant turtles and the dead walking around like the living, she's at least equipped to collect herself and realise that the deep voice is coming from the beast itself. Himself. Jesus, a dragon. And a damned polite one at that. ]
