[It’s a few moments after the text is received that a video entry pops up instead. Naugus’ scowling face takes up most of the screen, as he appears to be leaning close and examining it. He seems to not be aware the video feed is already live and functional. A fingertip taps at the glass before he finally sits back to a more reasonable distance. He's an odd-looking figure, with his bat ears, plentiful sharp teeth, horned forehead and long beard. The wizard clears his throat, still scowling.]

I suppose this will have to suffice for now. But really, whoever is behind these planks with lettered buttons on them CLEARLY did not account for something like this.

[Naugus lifts his left hand to reveal that it's instead a crab-like claw. He snaps it twice for illustrative emphasis before lowering it again.]

Ehhn. That aside, I am quite interested in learning what other, aheh, 'heroes' have been summoned to this realm. Feel free to make yourself known and I will deign to do the same.

In our defense, the summoning process is remarkably disorienting. And I didn't hurt anyone!

Right! So I'm hardly accountable for a moment of distress and an attempted escape! Glad that's settled.

I must say, I'm increasingly intrigued by how the summoning happens and who's in control of it. Where would answers be turned up, I wonder?

It was set up by the previous emperor. Unfortunately, someone killed her before you showed up. I assume she set up some sort of failsafe for the spell to continue after her death, but you'd have to ask the current Emperor.

Given most spells from my own world dies with the caster, I can't offer any insight on how the spell is still working without someone to control it.

It takes a bit more effort and a few fail-safes, but it's easily done. Though not having the original caster present any longer when things need to be dismantled, altered or things go simply wrong is another matter.

Interesting, that. Might be part of the answers I'm looking for.

I would also like to know why I woke up in a tub of water.

That probably has something to do with the nature of the spell. I'm told that at one time, people woke up on the shore here.

I'm glad that's done; I'd probably sink.

Something inherently to do with water, perhaps? It's a versatile element, as I'm sure we both realize. Quenching, drowning, liquid, ice and snow. Its ability to act as a mirror gives it some unique properties as well when it comes to magicks.

Or something to do with the original caster. I've known sorcerers with an affinity for water shamanism to work it into barrier spells simply because it was what they were most comfortable.

I favour ice myself.

So I take it you found yourself here in the same manner I was? In a basin of water? Since you were not one of these shipwrecked examples you speak of.
