Hello..?

[Have yourself a twelve year old girl testing the water on the shiny new thing and mumbling to herself a little as she does.]

...I hope I'm doing this right.

[Oh right. The people can hear her. Sarah takes a deep breath and gets to talking.]

I uh, gotta say, this is some real crazy stuff going on. I don't even know where to start makin' sense of any of it. The Kedan people, the ones that work here? I think they work here. Live here? I dunno. They explained a lot of stuff but I'm still trying to wrap my head around even being here.

[Sarah pauses. When she speaks again it's with a little less certainty.]

Do they ever make mistakes with who they bring here? I'm not sure I'm the monster fighting type.

[Not real ones anyway.]

Whoa, hello!

[It's late, but a welcome thing. Sarah's a little less shocked at being here too.]

Yeah, everyone was real helpful. It's... a lot to take in though. But, I'll work it out, I guess? Oh, and no one from home. Well, not my time, anyway.

[Better than nothing though. Sarah smiles and promptly realizes she's missed a vital point.]

I'm Sarah by the way!

Nice to meet you, Sarah.

[Well the girl looks a lot better now than she did when she made her entry. Bryn exhales with relief and manages a more certain smile.]

I don't have anyone here from my home either but like you said, everyone's really friendly around here so if you need anything just holler, okay?

[She pauses a beat, not wanting to leave the conversation so short...]

You're from Earth, right?

Will do! Thanks Bryn!

[It's a little overwhelming how wonderful people have been. Sarah knows she got damn lucky, even with the whole being here. If she's going to be stuck in a bad situation, at least she's got allies.]

Yeah, I'm from Austin. In Texas. ...Earth. Dooo you know it?

[Bryn looks human enough, after all.]

Can't say I do, but then I've heard of a lot of other places on Earth! I had a friend who was from France, and another from England. A few Americans too. Where is this Texas of yours? Is it anything like here?

[It's a big world, and she doubts it. Everyone she's talked to has said that this city reminds them more of China. Asia, they say. Bryn's known for a while now that her world is entirely different so everything she knows, she's learned from others in conversations like these.]

It's in America! And... nah, it's not like here at all. Not really. I mean some things are kiiinda the same, but that's all just general stuff.

[Way to be vague, Sarah.]

Where are you from?

[Because if it's not Earth, it's got to be somewhere awesome and exciting. To her at least.]

[Bryn doesn't try to press for more details because, well, she's a little girl. Vague is fine and she just nods encouragingly.]

I'm from a country called Askoupur. A friend of mine says that it sounds a bit like the Algiers to him. Is that familiar to you?

Uuuh...

[Hang on, she's heard that somewhere.]

I know the name of the place, but I dunno much about it. Sorry!

[But she'll make a point of finding out if she ever gets the chance.]

I bet it's real nice though!

[Bryn can always direct her to Henry if she gets curious enough to ask.]

It is. I mean I'm entirely biased because it's home but...yes, it's nice. This time of year I'd be traveling back home to the city where it's a lot warmer, and there'd be holiday parties at all of the temples...

[And this would be the first year since she turned sixteen that she'd be missing Jhirem's. It stings a bit to realize it.]

Will you tell me a bit about yourself?

[One thing Sarah's finding in this place is that she loves to hear where others are from. Everyone is so different, even if they look, for the most part, just like people from home. So long as they're happy to share, she's more than happy to listen.]

That sounds so cool. We never really travel around like that at home, and there's temples, but I've never really heard of parties at any of them.

[She scratches her head, short blonde hair ruffling a little beneath her fingers.]

Alright uuuh... I'm twelve years old. Thirteen in a few months though. I live with my dad, I go to school.

[Sarah wrinkles her nose as she pauses to think, but smiles a moment later.]

I don't really know what to say!
