[It took nearly three tries after stumbling out of bed for Midii to remember the proper button-pushing procedures, and clearly even longer to realize (and subsequently not care) that her hair was still a mess. A mess she was now publicly broadcasting, completely with a stiffened yawn and weary rub at her eyes.]

[Still clinging to the 24+ hours sleep she had unexpectedly succumbed to, her voice was groggy. Her mind, unfocused. Her words, uncensored.]

I fell asleep in the park. I think. But then I woke up here. I...don't remember anything else since then.

[There had been...a little girl crying. She remembered that much. What happened to that little girl? The paranoia began to sink in, and despite herself, she visibly frowned. Suddenly nervous.]

Is this another one of those magic things that keep happening around here?

((ooc: Midii was one of the people attacked by Bakura's summons. Her memories are a bit groggy at the moment, but as time passes, she might remember more and more of the incident.))

I mean...we don't have that much in common. Most of them like to run around and climb the trees in the park. They're not interested in sitting in the shade and reading.

Well then, p'tite, that is their fault. Perhaps some of them do, but have just not said it? A girl your age should have many friends. Especially one so beautiful.

[Eponine, please. She's going to drown in these attempts at ego inflation.]

If someone doesn't like being your friend, then why are they your friend?

[She hesitated in her response, and when it came, it was in the form of another question:]

If Marius loves somebody else, why does he give you nice things?

[Not implied as an insult or point of hypocrisy. Midii genuinely considered their situations parallel enough that to point them out would help Eponine understand.]

[Her eyes narrow and the words that come out of her mouth next are short and dark.]

Because he is my friend. We care for each other.

[Her smiles turns sad. And she nods in understanding.]

He does not like me. But he cares enough to let me stay by him all the same.

I was not speaking of your Damien.

You said all the people I consider close to me. He is one of them.

[She smiles a little wider now. Because her point was made.]

Everyone else, yes. They like me. Or, at least, they act very much like they like me. Even Bean.

Bean? I do not know him. But that is a funny name for a boy.

[Just let's not talk about Damien.]

He's young. Much younger than me. [He also lives with He Who Eponine Does Not Wish To Talk About] But very smart.

I helped teach him to cook not too long ago.

To cook! How kind of you. I am sure this Bean enjoyed that.

He did. He's very reserved. [Like her] But I could tell.

There are others, too. Not just Bean. Kyle has been very kind to me as well. He gave me a job working at the clinic. I run small errands, and they pay me more than they probably need to. Jor-El has been teaching me different Languages. And Jack...

[A pause, and she thought of something.]

You can see Jack, right? Jack Frost?

That is many people! Most I have become close with here are those I came here with. [But she won't get into the nuances of that yet.] That is so kind of them.

Jack Frost? Yes, I've seen him... should I have not?

No. I mean...yes, it's good that you can see him.

I just wanted to make sure you knew who I was talking about. Not every body can.

He spoke with me after Gavroche left.
Why would I not be able to see him?

Because of what he is.

I couldn't see him for the longest time. He said it was because I didn't believe. But now I can. Mostly.

[Still a bit transparent, but more than enough for her to get a good look at what her invisible friend actually looked like.]

And what is he?

[Jack Frost was an idea that existed in France. Eponine was prone to believe in the idea, in a broad sort of manner.]

[It should have been an easy question. What is Jack? Yet, Midii had to ponder it for a long moment before the answer eventually came to her. A single word:]

Magic.

Is he.

[It's not a question. Stranger things here have occurred.]
