[The audio clicks on and Costigan sounds less than thrilled. He's been busy in the city, outside the bottle, and has very little patience left.]

Fuck.

Catty and Vanessa are both gone. Their suites are cleared out and everything. [A pause.] Anyone else work with them on their rehab program? I can fund and manage it, but I need volunteers to do the.. Counseling? Listening? Fuck if I know.

[Costigan clicks on the video. He looks a little disheveled from the fighting, but he's holding his own fairly well. He looks at the camera.]

There's a kid here, Midii Une. You don't have to talk to her now, but I need to make sure she stays until you do. She's a good kid.

[He runs a hand through his hair. It's not an order, of course. Even though it's a statement, the tone of voice suggests it's a request. Costigan knows better than to make demands.]

And I could still use a better encryption program.

[ The text on the screen gets a baleful glare and the feed cuts. But a while later there will be some strange noises coming from the man's doorstep, where Costigan will find a male kedan tied calf-style on the stoop. Many patches of the kedan's arms and legs will bear markings of a pro-Malicant cult, in some places even being etched and burned into the skin. It wouldn't take much questioning to prove the obsession is more than a surface appearance and he'll start babbling about glorious oncoming darkness until someone gags him again.

There's a note pinned to the man's collar bearing a strong, fairly heavy press of script: Now that I have your attention, you are the one coming up empty.

However if asked about how he was captured, the man's eyes will glaze over and he'll say he can't remember. If Costigan has a telepath verify that, he'll find traces that the memories were in essence ripped right out of the man's mind, and none too gently at that. ]

[The new message comes hours later, late in the night when most would be asleep. Costigan can't get the man's words out of his mind. The kedan has already been passed along to local law enforcement to be dealt with appropriately.]

You can't blame all of them for a few assholes.

[ And Costigan will wait almost a full 12 hours for the reply, partly because Bakura is never at anyone's beck and call and partly because he is always careful to reply from anonymous cafe consoles. He has no way of knowing for certain and the text doesn't give anything away, but the thief hopes his point is made. ]

The "show" was so that you won't think I'm full of shit when I tell you that, should you ever imply I'm useless again, I'll skewer my next proof in twelve pieces to your door.

Don't think you're useless.

Think you're not willing to share what information you have when won't even share your identity. Think you're too eager to blame kedan.

Think your impressive skills could be put to better use.

Yet you called me a liar. You have an interesting approach to getting information.

The kedan delude themselves to one side or the other: the emperor or the enemy, it doesn't matter to them. If anything, they're almost startling in how unseated their loyalty is -- though not as interesting in how protective you seem of them. First you accuse me of insulting them, then blaming them. You're not sleeping with one of them, are you?

As for my anonymity, I prefer results to empty labels. If you don't share that opinion, I am happy to find someone with more influence to speak to.

[ Trussing up the cult kedan wasn't exactly a hassle for Bakura so he doesn't feel as though his time's been wasted in making his point, even if Costigan didn't bite. He'll click off the feed, though the anon ID remains in console memory in case Costigan ever wants to send another message through. ]
