[Stiles is much, much happier than the last time he made a network post. He's also in a considerably different location. He's not in his suite in the Earth sector. In fact, for those who pay attention to these sorts of things, they'll note that he's calling it in from Derek's network ID. Welp.]

Ladies and gentlemen of Keelai, I have a very important announcement to make. Today, April the eighth, marks a momentous occasion in history. A day to be spoken of in legend and myth and song, when the stars and planets align, and rainbows and puppies spontaneously appear.

I am eighteen.

You are looking at an official man, everybody. It is my birthday, hosanna hosanna, hallelujah and so on.

But he's lost again. Chekov pauses. 'Marketing' is obvious but 'tele'... 'telephone'? A lot of people here mentioned telephones so he knows what those are. But what telemarketing is-- marketing over telephones but marketing what? And do people call them or do they call the marketers?]

You have lost me again. I understand what 'telemarketing' stands for, but I have no idea what it is.

Don't worry about it. It's one of those silly Earthling things that people do, because our entire society is built around money.

I'm Stiles, by the way. I don't think we've ever chatted before.

I am from Earth, actually. I lived in Tagnarog, but I spend most of my time on Earth in San Fransisco.

[Casually leaving out the 'I lived on the moon' bit because people tend to get stuck on that.]

Pavel Chekov. Very nice to meet you.

[There's a blink, and a pause, and then Stiles grins widely.]

Nice to meet you, Pavel. I thought I detected some Slavic consonants in your accent.

So what do you do that brings you in regular contact with aliens?

[He's tempted to say 'oh just existing,' but he won't be an ass.]

There are aliens on Earth. I met the most when I was a student at Starfleet Academy. I work in space on Starfleet's flagship, the Enterprise. [He lights up just talking about it.] We explore the unknown reaches of the galaxy.

[His little geek heart is exploding right now Pavel, thank you. Best birthday present ever. Not that he'd ever let on that he knew.]

That is so cool. So wait, you know Kirk, right? He's my boss over at the Brazen Turtle.

Ah, yes! He is the captain.

[Chekov sounds quite fond. Kirk is the best captain and nothing will convince him otherwise. (And maybe the coolest big brother figure ever.)]

[Having to pretend not to know anything is so hard. But he learned his lesson with Spock.]

So what's your job on the Enterprise? What do you do as you bo-...bop your way around the galaxy?

[He totally almost said "boldly go where no one has gone before." Stiles no.]

[He'd think 'boldly go where no one has gone before' would be the coolest line ever and use it to death. Oops.]

I am the navigator. I calculate the best course based on the captain's specifications.

Whoa. That's amazing. I mean, an infinite three-dimensional space means navigation is tricky at best. But then add in planets and a wrong turn means you're like a bug splattering on a windshield.

[Chekov's expression brightens. It's always nice when someone gets it.]

Exactly! You also have to take into account the physics of faster-than-light travel. If you exit warp too close to a planet, you could be pulled into its gravitational pull.
