I, uh, paid some kedan to help me move the radio stuff into my suite? I didn't want it to get taken away. I mean, I'm not really the radio type. So like, I can show someone how it works or whatever, but I don't want to be in charge of it.

[She lifts a hand to wrap around the back of her neck, awkward.] If you didn't know, there's a radio system that people can use to transmit messages. He left a bunch of extras to hand out if people need them, so you can listen. But anyone can come transmit a message if they need to - if it's important, you know? Allegedly It can't hear the radio. The big bad wolf, I mean. I don't know if that's true though.

[He says it quietly and that's the only way to tell he's sad. He hadn't spoken much to Mr Kent, but somehow the fact he was there had been reassuring. Everyone had their heroes. Anton just hadn't expected to meet his in person. He does, however, recall this girl visiting their apartment building on occasion.]

[Hayley lifts her hands around to the back of her neck, dragging her nails lightly across her skin there.]

I thought they took everything else to.. wherever they take everything. Is it still there?

Some. Given the circumstances I am not surprised that policy may have been neglected.

I want a suit jacket. I mean, not any jacket. There's this one that's kind of blackish-gray with sort of squared shoulders and a single button.. If it's still there, I want it.

[Hayley pursues her lips for a second, then nods.]

There was this green stone.. I don't know if he kept it. It was in a metal box last time I saw it? Anyway, I gave it to him as a present. If it's still there, I'd appreciate that too.

[Because you never know when you'll need more Kryptonite, okok.]

[Pause, and then he lifts his eyebrow.]

Would this be a very specific type of green stone?

[She frowns.]

Yes. Is there a problem with that?

Why did you give it to him?

[Who gives Clark Kent Kryptonite?]

Because I found it and he asked for it.

[Technically true, although so much more complicated than that. Hayley notes that the man is clearly aware of Clark being Superman, wondering how many other people knew. Clark had made it seem like so few.]

[That makes sense. Naturally, Kent would rather such a weapon be in his own hands--safely guarded. No one else could use it to harm him, that way. But some versions of Kryptonite are dangerous to humans as well, and Anton never found out which world Kent might have been from.]

I assume the box it's in will protect others from potentially harmful effects, or is this kind of stone benign to humans?

Tell me how you know about Kryptonite and I'll tell you who it's dangerous to and how to make it safe.

[Pause. His face. So blank. So blank.]

I read the comics.

[Hayley actually pales and can't help but look a little shocked. She suddenly remembers when she first arrived, how she knew the name 'Superman' before she ever met Clark, but she hadn't known they were the same or about the rock or any of it.]

So you read some comics and that makes you an expert? You know comics are made up, right? They're not biographies. I mean, maybe someone made some comic off of Superman's life and Clark was trying to protect Kal by holding onto the Kryptonite, but it's not like everything you read about Superman was true.

And forget I asked, okay? Clearly you're all too eager to make fun of peoples' lives and the things that could kill them, so, by all means, keep it. Hopefully your comics told you all about what it can do to people and how to protect yourself.

[That was ... unexpected. Anton's brow furrows, but he speaks calmly and without resentment.]

I apologise for the offence. I wouldn't make fun of a man of integrity such as Clark Kent. I only wish to make sure the item you want will not be dangerous to you or those around you, given its potential properties--as you say, it is impossible to tell how accurate my information is. Unfortunately, I did not know Mr Kent well enough to ask from which universe he came, hence my question to you.

[She frowns. Hayley doesn't really believe Anton, but some Kryptonite is better than no Kryptonite.]

If it's still in the box I gave it to him in, then it's not a danger to me. And I can protect everyone else from it too.

You claimed to know about someone because you "read the comics." You seriously don't see how that's kind of making fun of them?

[He inclines his head thoughtfully, and while his words are slow, considering, there's a quiet passion in his voice.]

Perhaps. But most of us here are from greatly disparate dimensions. Multiple-universe theory has been commonly accepted in my world, as it has in Mr Kent's. I find it logical that some might have resonated in others in some fashion.

But I wouldn't demean what Mr Kent has done, in any universe, by pretending his actions are meaningless--even if they are, in my world, fiction. Legends are what inspire great people. Legends such as Clark Kent. That is valuable beyond measure, regardless of how those legends are known.

[Hayley listens and actually thinks about what he's saying before giving a light shrug. It's the most she'll say in regard to believing him.]
