There is a flaw to your logic.

The ability to persuade or, perhaps, even bribe the great turtle into doing what we wish is predicated upon the false notion that he is still in charge and in full control of her own actions.

That is one area I am uncertain in. I do not possess olfactory senses. And I do not sleep. Thus, I could not verify whether or not subconscious reactions to particular scents is true or merely an erroneous theory.

I will consider the possibility for a future experiment. [With said friends' permission, of course; Aya was curious about carbon-based life form traits and how they differed from her own, but she was also respectful and courteous and nowhere near as naive as some people tended to assume.] Meanwhile, I do recommend you come up with an alternate theory as to how to regain Asti's direct consciousness.

I'm pretty sure there is? I know that plenty of people think mixing two unrelated foods can make something taste like a third? Scent shouldn't be that much different? Because they're tied together, a little.
