[The screen flips on to show both Aqua and Xion. Aqua looks concerned and a bit grim about something, and is the first to speak.]

The Chihuelans have left Keeliai, haven’t they? We’ve been outside the city for the last few weeks - what happened?

[WHAT DID YOU GUYS BREAK GOD WE CAN’T ~~TAKE~~ LEAVE YOU ANYWHERE. It’s here that Xion, after a moment’s hesitation, pipes up.]

While we were out there, we ran into a patrol.. or I guess they ran into us. They seemed… really upset about something.

[Given the awkward pauses, it’s clear there’s probably a lot she’s not saying. Though with these two, chances are things likely didn’t end in violence or anything like that? One would hope at least.

Aqua speaks up again after this.]

They didn’t tell us what had happened. [And likewise, the two of them hadn’t pressed.] If someone - anyone - could fill us in on what happened while we were gone, please tell us.

[Perhaps it hadn’t been the best of ideas to leave while the Chihuelans were still present after all.

When did you run into the patrol? The way I heard it, they had a close encounter with one of the Foreigners. That might have been why they were upset.

...actually, you two missed out on a lot. Probably for the better, I might add.

About midway through the month, I'd say? [She glances at Xion for confirmation.

Her frown deepens.]

Too much, it sounds like. For better or for worse, it may have been better for us to be here rather than outside the city.

[Xion nods in confirmation at Aqua's glance, frowning a little thoughtfully herself. None of this was sounding very good in the slightest. She isn't sure if Aqua's right in that it'd have been better to be here, she isn't sure how she could have helped, but even so... ]

How bad did it get? [On that note...] Is that why they left?

The Chihuelans left around the 27th. Apparently they were recalled. But they were dragging people back in the meantime, the so-called deserters they'd caught. And executing them.

[Aqua's eyes widen in horror.]

Ex-executing them?! But the deserters... they weren't hurting anyone!

[The first thing that comes to mind at the mention of Chihuelan deserters are the two men captured by Yunxu, who only wanted to live their lives. Hardly something deserving of execution.]

[Xion, for her part, gasps in horror, her hands flying up to cover her mouth. Executed, killed, destroyed.... all for what?

Maybe they should have been here. And yet that message on the network heralding their arrival had shown they would brook no arguments or attempts to stop them. She shrinks a little in on herself, frustration and a sort of helplessness knotting around in her stomach.

She doesn't have anything to say though, Aqua's said the biggest question on her mind.]

It's what the Chihuelans call justice. They were going to leave the bodies to rot as an example, but Klaus talked the Justicar into letting us take them and give them proper burials.

Hey! Welcome back!

[Cue one gigantic grin, coupled with excited waving. Sure, he popped by a few times to visit, but darn it, they're back, and that's awesome.

However, as quickly as he lit up, he soon deflates, rubbing his shoulder and staring down at the floor.]

Um... Well, some people got... They were--

[He can't bring himself to say it. It's too much.]

It was wrong. There should've been another way...!

[If Gene hadn't already spilled the beans on that particular topic, Xion might've been confused, or at least generous in her assumptions. But not this time.]

Yeah. [beat] Ven...? Where... are you right now?

[It's a hesitant question. More importantly it's not one that Xion would normally ask, as confused as she's been in the past.]

Oh. I'm...

[Heh.]

I'm in the Water Sector right now, but I can meet up with you guys if that's easier! I don't mind.

[Normally he's a bit more adventurous, but given recent events, the more industrial sectors just haven't carried the same wonder. It's a small roadbump, and he tries to offer another smile as reassurance, but it's tired, threatening to droop back into a frown.]

They are gone.

Are the two of you well?

[They hadn't just up and left, or at least Aqua hadn't. The timing had been unfortunate, but given Xion's previous issues with soldiers bearing guns, Anton couldn't fault her for the decision.]

Yeah. I'm...

[It's so hard, now that she knows some of what happened. She doesn't know what they could have done.]

I'm glad we got to go, at least.

[Even if she's not sure if it was better or not.]

Good. How was the training?

[Hopefully that interruption hadn't ruined the expedition.]
