I regret to inform you all that it seems Miss Lazuli has returned to her world.

For those who were her friends, I am deeply sorry.

[There's a moment where he shifts, eyes flicking downwards, but he's back to his usual attentive self in a moment.]

This may make things with the upcoming move tricky - while I'm informed that the tidal surge will be more than enough to dislodge Tu Vishan, Miss Lazuli was one of our primary movers.

I would ask then for anyone who has control of the elements of wind or water to lend your aid in keeping the turtle as steady as possible. I would also ask for help in ensuring buildings are structurally secure. We suffered some minor issues during the primary move, and while I don't foresee disaster, it is better to be safe than sorry.

When the time comes for landfall, any aid in anchoring would also be much appreciated.

I believe so. She didn't show up at the shop and I couldn't find her where she said she usually hides.

It's possible she found another spot, but it's strange she'd go so long without contact.

That... that's too bad.

[There's a long pause; Erskine looks down, away from the camera, obviously struck by the loss.]

I didn't help much with the first leg of the move. If we can break free of the fog, though, I'll do what I can.

...I'm sorry, Mr Ravel.

And thank you. Any help you can offer would be appreciated. Getting there is not so much a problem, but keeping the turtle steady and not crash-landing will be the priority.

[He shrugs a little, dismissively. He's probably not the worst hit by her loss, he can't be the one who deserves the apology here.]

I didn't know her all that well. I liked her, but I didn't really know her.

Like I said before, my magic's fairly limited in scope, but I'll do what I can. Just let me know when and where. I haven't been keeping up on the news very well.

I don't think she was here long enough for any of us to really claim they did know her. But still.

Most seem to have limited abilities - like before this will be a triumph of cooperation.

She wasn't terribly outgoing either, from what I could tell. Not that I have any room to talk.

Oy. [That actually gets a brief, weary chuckle out of him.] I suppose you could say limited if you're comparing us to Lapis. Otherwise it's more a limitation of scope than ability, thank you.

[This gets a small chuckle.] I am saying that none of us are god-like in power. I do not doubt the skill of anyone here - I just do not expect any one person to carry such a weight alone.

On that note, how have you been faring, Mr Ravel?

I... right, yeah.

Not bad. Been a bit... preoccupied. [Indeed, he's been harder to spot around the Hotel since Christmas] You? How were your holidays?

[This gets a bit of a laugh out of him.]

Ah, I know the feeling. I'd quite... well, not 'forgotten' about the holidays', but what with plans for the move, I rather kept putting them off. They were not for quite a few months in my timeline back home.

Still, perhaps some belated celebrations would be in order. It sounds like you could do with some leisure time out as well.

Yeah? How long have you been here, now? Seems like it's been a while....

[Erskine frowns thoughtfully. He has a hard enough time trying to calculate how long he's been here, let alone anyone else.]

Maybe, yeah. The Masquerade was fun, at least. What little I was there for.

[His appearance as Erskine had been brief. Rue, on the other hand...]

Hm... when I arrived it was the middle of summer, so that puts me at about six and a half months.

The masquerade really was lovely. Miss Valdis and Mr Rue really pulled out all the stops. It's a shame you didn't have much of a chance to enjoy it.

What sort of outings do you enjoy, Mr Ravel?

Dear God, has it really been that long? That puts me at... eight months? And a birthday coming up. I don't know, do birthdays even count here?

[He shrugs] I can't do crowds as well as I used to. Or... at all. I'm glad you enjoyed it, though.

...you know, I barely even remember? I was so busy back home for the last century, I hardly ever made time to go out and do something for myself. And before that was the war. And before the war.... [A soft laugh] Before the war was three hundred years ago. I guess I don't really know. We went out sometimes as a unit, when we had downtime, but most of them aren't here.

[I don't know, Ersk, do birthdays count when you're effectively immortal?]

We will have to do something to celebrate, if you feel inclined.

May I ask, how have things been for you? Has there been any trouble?

[He's not immortal! He's practically middle aged for a sorcerer okay :| ]

Ah... that's not necessary. But thank you.

[He hesitates for a long moment before answering those last questions, debating how truthful to be. He doesn't know Klaus as well as some others on the turtle, but Klaus has never been anything but kind.]

No trouble. I just... I got a present for Christmas, and I'm not really sure where it came from. Or how they knew so much about me.

[He old.]

[Klaus ponders this and its implications. There's concern there - was someone threatening Erskine?]

Would you like to discuss it in a more private venue?

...if you want. Is your room free?

[Klaus shares his room with several other people, but Erskine shares his with Anton. Erskine is much more worried about Anton's privacy.]

For the moment, though I can't guarantee how long that will last.

[He expects Erskine would like some privacy.]

It won't take long. I'll be over in a few minutes.

[And sure enough, a few minutes later there's a soft knock on the door.]

[Klaus knows exactly who it is, and opens up the door.]

"Please, come in, Mr Ravel. Make yourself comfortable."

[There are a couple arm chairs in the room.]

[Erskine offers him a small smile and nods, and after ducking into the room he slows for a moment before taking one of the chairs. This is a very different situation than the last time he was in this room--when he'd been both small and fuzzy and then normal-sized but quite naked. Thankfully it doesn't seem like Klaus is going to fuss too much about that.]

[He knows he's here to talk about the Echo Stone, but he'll let Klaus get settled again before he pulls that out.]

[Once Erskine was situated, Klaus sat down across from him, hands folded in his lap]

You've been more distant than usual, Mr Ravel. Has something been troubling you?

[Everyone had their own ways of avoiding their troubles. Klaus threw himself into his work. Erskine made himself scarce.]

I... suppose that depends on your definition of 'trouble.'

[He offers a small smile, not exactly cheery but at least friendly, and one hand moves to the pocket of his trousers. When he withdraws the hand and opens it for Klaus to see there's a blue gemstone in his palm, just slightly larger than a golfball.]

Do they have Echo Stones where you're from?

[Klaus shook his head.]

Perhaps. If they do, I haven't heard them go by that name. Though if I could fathom a guess, it sounds like a stone that recounts the past.

[Klaus was rather well versed when it came to discerning the purpose of magical artifacts. His job depended on it.]

[Erskine nods.]

Close. They're used by the dying. If you sleep with one by your bedside for three nights, it imprints with your memories, your personality. Your consciousness. They're left for your loved ones, to ease the grief of your passing. They're incredibly rare.

[Klaus could be naive on some matters but he was far from stupid. He could put two and two together.]

I gather that you've received such a stone. Was it someone you were close to?
