[The screen lights up to show Valdis and Pepper. They appear to be in the Hotel and Pepper is grinning from ear to ear.]

Recent events have shown that Tu Yunxu is struggling as a leader; but, if I were to be blunt, the Snakes were never a force that operated in the interests of the kedan themselves anyway and there is a power vacuum forming in our city.

[Valdis' voice is calm, and while she isn't smiling, there is an amused glint in her eyes.]

For the past few months, I have been in contact with several of the gangs in the city. Some of them have agreed to an alliance of sorts, meaning that they wish to help fill this power vacuum with a legitimate Police Force that operates in the interests of the kedan and their laws.

[The laws part was a bit more difficult, but Valdis trusted that things would work out. She had spent quite a bit of time looking at the ones she could find.]

This Volunteer Police Force would be comprised of foreigners and kedan, working together for the good of the city that we live in. Though at first we will rely on donations and the goodwill of the public, I am hoping that the eventual government will be able to set up proper wages and equipment for their protectors.

[Valdis hadn't had to think long about this next part and Pepper had agreed wholeheartedly.]

I believe that it is important that no single foreigner be the head of this establishment. We cannot guarantee that we will always be here and stability is key for success. For now, myself, Pepper and Gene will be co-heads as we try to find a qualified leader from among the Kedan.

[Hopefully she and Pepper weren't wrong about Meisheng.]

That said, we are looking for volunteers to aid us in our endeavors.

[It was far more complicated than the man...Dante, might think. It almost hurt to see him there, not knowing who she was or any of what they had had, but she always knew that this could happen, much as she wished it hadn't.]

Fine.

[She shook her head and managed a smile.]

If you are anything like him, then I know that we can count on you.

[He can tell it isn't fine, but he wasn't going to pressure he about it. Instead, he'll crack a small smile back and attempt to lighten the mood just a bit.]

[As cocky as that sounded, it was true.]

[Her smile becomes genuine for a moment.]

Nice to meet you. I don't suppose I need an introduction, do I?

[Not having to introduce himself was something he had to get use to.]

As you said, you aren't the same person I used to know, so an introduction would be normal, right?

[There was nothing normal about this, but..]

[That was a good point. He didn't think of it, honestly.

Dante gives a small smirk.]

Alright, then. Name's Dante -- Devil Hunter Extraordinarie, Jack of All Trades and Master of None! Nice to meet you... again.

[despite the part of her that still remembered, she laughed.]

Nice to meet you too.

[He's kind of glad he's somehow managed to make the situation less awkward. Dante isn't sure it'll stay that way, but it's still rather nice.

His small smirk leaves and his face turns neutral. There is something he wants to say that might help the situation -- or, so he hopes it does.]

You know, I'll understand if you don't want to be around me too much. I know how it feels to see someone who looks like someone you knew. I was there at one point, actually.

[He frowns as he remembers how he met Trish. Shaking his head, he continues.]

It was a different situation but similar enough. So, it's fine if you want space -- I won't whine about it.

[It wasn't that she had known the previous Dante, it was that she had loved him and he had loved her...but now he was stranger.

She shook her head and kept the smile.]

We are going to be working together, I don't think that avoiding you is really an option.

Then I guess I'll try not to make things too awkward. Sound good?

[He wasn't sure how he would do that, but he'd try.]

I'm sure things will be fine.

Yeah.

[He hopes so, anyways.]

Not gonna pry, though... trust me.

[Things wouldn't ever be the same, but that didn't mean that things were going to break again.]
