First Animus Data Fragment [Radio]
[When the radio clicks on, the first thing listeners might notice is the whistling of the wind, as though the person on the other end is very high up somewhere. Really, Desmond just needed to process everything, after waking up in the city. He hadn't even though to get his hand looked at, so shocked was he by what was happening.]
So uhh...I'm supposed to be dead. Someone wanna shed a little light on why I'm not? I mean...I got the whole "Welcome to the back of a Giant Turtle" spiel from the guys in that Welcome Center place, but...they wouldn't answer why I'm not a corpse right now.
[He coughs.]
I mean...I don't wanna sound ungrateful or anything, I'm glad I'm alive or whatever, but...there was a good reason why I was supposed to be dead.

[Those last words Desmond said struck him as odd, though.]
Sorry for asking, but why is there a good reason for you to be dead?
no subject
[A pause.]
It's...complicated. World was ending, that kind of thing. Had to make a tough choice.
no subject
So, I'm gonna guess you took the path less walked? Tough choice there. How does it feel to be alive again?
no subject
See, that's the thing. The way the choice was put to me, I either let most of the people on earth die, and in turn become some kind of New Age Jesus-type figure to the few left, or I save the whole planet, and unleash a disembodied psycopath on it instead. I chose the latter, because I figured my friends could deal with the disembodied psychpath after I was gone.
Honestly though? It doesn't feel too bad, aside of this wicked burn I've got on my hand. Should probably get it looked at.
no subject
[Hopefully he wouldn't have to make that kind of choice any time soon, though.]
Did you get that burn before you got here?
no subject
[Considering that Juno showed him that in time, his message would become corrupted, just like Jesus' had.]
Yeah, I think so. Part of the whole "dying to save everyone" thing involved me putting my hand on a thing to turn it on. "Quick and painless" my ass, it hurts like hell!
no subject
But to get back to your earlier question, I think it just says that you've been through a lot more weird stuff than I have.
[Dante sighs.]
You'd thinking coming where I have, living on a Giant Turtle wouldn't be a hard thing to believe but, nah, that ain't how my brain works.
... What's your name, by the way?

[Cue the unmistakable sound of a Leap of Faith, as Desmond had made sure to climb a building with a pile of hay in it's vicinity.]
Oh, I think I'm in the...Sky Sector? Look for the guy in the white hoodie.

[Because this wasn't awkward at all.]

May as well, right? I mean...me dying meant that I was leaving it up to my friends anyway, so I might as well do whatever with the time I've got. A second chance at a normal life, or something.
no subject
Seems like a better option than dying again. [She tilts her head to the side.] Leaving what up to your friends?
no subject
Heh, yeah.
[A pause.]
Dealing with the disembodied psycho lady I let out when I saved the world. I didn't really have a choice.

[She likes questions. A lot.
Her eyes widen slightly at his answer.]
Oh. Wow. That's, uh, intense. [Beat] You'll fit right in here in Keeliai. A lot of us come from... totally weird and strange circumstances.
no subject
It's...a long, weird story. Sometimes I wonder if the whole mess wasn't just some weird dream. But at least I know I'm not the only one. Maybe we should have meetings or something.
